I couldn't believe when I saw the crowd at the other stage for her last year when I watched it on tv. I had no idea she was so popular. Inexplicably so. As pop acts go she's actually worse than most IMO and she's not even good looking.

Duffy also got a humongous crowd in 2010 or whenever she was popular. If she played in 2013 she'd get about 10 people. Same will happen to Jessie J worry not.

it was a massive crowd, but it was also a crowd with an overly high proportion of teenage girls and their mothers. Just listen to those screams!

So what we have is the sort of crowd who in the past would have been at a Westlife concert. That's Jessie's audience.

And no doubt that crowd has managed to get her a slot on the pyramid!

What about teenage girls and their dads!

There was probably some of those too. There were probably some older blokes too like Bamber.

But the sound of the crowd gives away how it's mostly made up. It's the same noise I've heard when i've been in the pit to photo the likes of Daniel Beddingfield, Atomic Kitten, the Sugababes, and other acts that appeal strongly to pre-pubescent girls and their not-interested-much-in-music mums.

We stood right at the back with my daughters and there were plenty of older people watching.

Just realised I sound like I wanted to be there. dash1.gif

I got stuck in the crowd at the back trying to get past to the dance village. Utter shite. The people maintaining she's a good singer have ears that work differently to mine. As for people lauding her for playing with an injured leg, ffs! She went on and on and on and on about it all summer like she was some sort of hero for sitting down and singing. Apart from Chipmunk, she was comfortably the worst thing I saw all weekend and I saw the first three songs of Beyonce miming and wiggling aimlessly around the Pyramid! Drivel.

I concur. I think she's got a dreadful voice. She gets some welly behind it but that isn't the same thing as good singing, it's just a loud noise

I'm 48 now 47 then and I watched Jessie J mid way back in front of the mixing desk platform, surrounded by all sorts really, no stereotypes at all as it goes., as you are generally presented with at Glastonbury, It is far too lazy and easy to dismiss and deplore what happened there. We are all our own figments of the collective imagination. Four minutes of your life is all it takes to realise that we are very simple in essence, yet easily touched by a simple song and a kid with attitude.

"It wasn't even planned"

Just to be clear, the bit you liked best when seeing Jessie J was the bit where she DIDN'T sing, but got a kid to do it instead? Not a great argument in favour of her talents, is it?! Needless to say, my favourite bit of a Jessie J gig would definitely be the bit where she wasn't making any noises!

Nope, it wasn't the best bit, just the easiest bit to explain. I know I'm up against it here. Try this, in her home town.

I seem to remember a pretty big crowd for the Suger Babes on the Pyramid in 03 too. Just goes to show a big crowd doesn't make for a good artist.

it's just about the case that any act on the Pyramid has a big crowd by default. Lots of people tend to stay there all day, as that's the stage that tends to have the most famous bands.

(and it's probably the case that plenty of those people know few of the bands on the other stages because Radio 12 or Radio 2 doesn't play them).
