RHCP?

I reckon Bestival might grab them if they do play a UK fest, it's becoming big enough to be seen as a major fest to stroke RHCP's ego and Bestival will be desperate enough to get a huge name even if they are piss poor live as they still don't have the same authority as other big name fests.

If it was the year before I would agree but with Bestival expanding so much they will want headliners to go with it and they've already booked Cure with their reputation as a poor live band.

I think there is a chance but is more likley they won't be playing over here at all but I'm suspicous as they haven't announced any tour dates so may be playing just festivals to promote the new album so a Euro would be likely.

Yet Muse has a reputation as a good live band and Cure don't. Most people say they were disappointing (which I agree with) and I remembering going to the bar whilst they were playing and there were fans bitching about how awful they are live (which I don't agree with) and their general reputation is poor but nearly as poor as RHCP. And if The Cure as so great live why did they asked to play Glasto and were told no you're shit live a few years ago?

You're claiming that its a general opinion that The Cure are a poor live band. I've seen non-fans claim the opposite opinion and that they are a fantastic live band and subsequently got into the band due to seeing them live. One or two people claiming something, does not make it a fact and it does not mean they arn't a good live band. I have never seen this 'general opinion' that The Cure arn't a good live band, outside of these boards and thats what I am disputing.

Lets get our facts straight here - the red hot chili peppers are a f**king huge draw (one of the very biggest in fact) and festivals clamber over each other to get them. So stop talking as if they're some washed up tribute band (e.g. guns n roses) who can't get a gig.

They have a damn good reputation as one of the best loved bands among the general public, don't let internet forum snobbery fool you otherwise.

It isn't internet forum snobbery. Most people are basing there opinion on what they have seem especially the disgraceful headlining set they did at Leeds a couple of years ago.

I am a fan of RHCP, saw them in Barcelona a few years ago and it was an amazing show I love their older stuff and dare I saw it, some of their newer songs as well. BUT nothing can excuse their last performance at Leeds. Yes they may still be a draw for organisers but if they do headline anywhere they will need to really impress or the damage will be irreparable.

Just out of interest - for people saying The Cure are poor now live, who has seen them since 2006 when they started playing well with a new lineup?

The Cure now compared with the Cure before 2004 are like two different bands to be honest.

On-Topic: I wasn't there but the RHCP Reading/Leeds performances don't seem too bad. There was a lot of w*nkery and improvisation but the songs themselves didn't seem too badly performed. I'd see them at Bestival if they played anyways.

Yeah, I missed Reading that year, but to me they didn't seem too bad at all. But so many people on here have said they were shit that I'm prepared to believe them. I wouldn't actually mind them at all next year, I've never seen them before, and I think they've got the potential to be very good. Think it's unlikely they'll play though.
