gratedenini
Think I`m gonna struggle the neet to get me 3 right before I can turn over! But, eeee lad... I`m telling yer, if this lot from Magdelen- Oxford happened to get a bus trip up here for a batchelor night.. they`d be twatted withing an hour of alighting the coach. AND... how do you get the prononciation Maudlin out of Magdelen .. thats enough to twat someone in its own right! Their opponents otoh from Sheffield..look like they are from Sheffield! less than 20 left..and i aint got one right yet.... den

LusciousLucy
I got a reasonable 10 or so questions tonight. It's always good to reach double figures, feel quite smug when that happens. I certainly watched with major interest as what you saw this evening was the potential series winners - either one of them. Sheffield ousted UCL a few weeks ago who were serious contenders too. Big hooray for Sheffield winning tonight (it helped having a sequence of zoological and archaeological questions being asked - very convenient with a zoologist and archaeologist on the team!) If I remember rightly, when the first appearance of Magdalen College happened, I am sure I had trouble deciding if the captain was male or female. I might be getting muddled with St Martins College/Courtauld Institute but the bloke that time was wearing a distinctly girly scarf. Explanation for Magdalen/Maudlin College...google it. There's an explanation out there, have heard it before but that was years ago.

LusciousLucy
I pay zero attention to internet silliness like plus and minus as it's all a bit pointless if you ask me and as people can hide behind their clickings with no explanations as to why they have done it then there's definitly no reason to be paying attention. I enjoy being a smug wotsit when it comes to Uni Challenge and I'm not embarrassed or ashamed by being able to answer the questions. Was embarrassed once by a very poor performance by my 'alma mater' Southampton University when I even knew someone on the team and they did appallingly! diddly-dee
What a finish!! One of best I`ve seen. Glad Sheffield won... I got me 3 at 8.23pm. Poteen, Smithereen and Richard Adams...was really struggling up till then. Did you get your 3? den
gratedenini
What are your 'rules' for getting 3? Do they have to be 'starters' questions, or can they include those 5 point bonus ones that you wouldn't have been asked without getting the started question right? And what about when one of the contestants just beats you to it with the answer - even though you knew it and were just about to say it when he/she buzzed or said the answer before you? Using a kind of 'catch-all' system that includes the starters and bonus questions and ones where someone else got there before me but i, honestly, did know the answer and would have got it just after them, the best i've ever done is thirty-one. But that was a particularly good show as, normally, i get about 15 to 20. Of course, if i was there in the studio and on a team and subject to the 'buzzer' and not being able to answer the 5-point bonus ones unless i'd got the starter question right as well then i'd not get nearly as many as this. diddly-dee
Good point. I have explained the rules elsewhere..but basically..I can get any question right, a starter or bonus. And yes..you are quite right.. theres lots of times when I`m fractionally late even though I know the answer..but I`ve got to be honest with myself. When (and if) I get to 3 I can then allow myself to either keep watching or switch over to Snog,Marry or Avoid, Hotter Than My Daughter or Harry Hills TV Burp You`ve done 31???? I bet you cant even butter a slice of bread never mind make an omelette...... someones gonna -1 you for that you know!! LL is up to -4 already! den

LusciousLucy
A few years back I tried for the team for Hull and got in. However they soon discovered I was pissed as was most of the team. We did not get on the show
gratedenini
That would have been brill to watch. I always find it amusing when a pure art college goes on up against an Oxbridge College and is totally buggered when all the super sciency/mathematical babble 'answer as soon as you buzz' questions get asked. The joy on an arty teams face when they know there's a question they JUST might get is always amusing. Sheffield certainly looked pretty surprised, not to mention happy, after their run of highly suitable to their chosen subjects of study came up on Monday. And although their faces were not shown, all the literature and politics questions Sheffield couldnt answer at all but had won the starter on that would clearly have been able to have been answered by the uber geeks of Magdalen, I imagine they were all grimacing in frustration. Yes, I am a Uni Challenge Geek and proud of it

LusciousLucy
I can honestly say I really do not have a clue about this +1 and -1 pointlessness. It wasnt until someone pointed it out in one of the Worm/Neil/Oaffish face offs that I noticed it even existed. At the end of the day it means absolutely f**k all as there is no basis for it, nothing sensible or any achievement gained from it and certainly to forum members who just don't give a damn, pointing out such banal behaviour is pointless. You cant find out who is saying yay or nay anyway so why have it? Someone please do give me a very serious reason for anyone actually hitting a minus sign in reaction over something so trivial such as discussing the finer points of one of the best quiz shows on telly. I'm totally bemused by it I have to say.
