I honestly can't get my head around this booking. Absolutely ridiculous IMO. I can understand bands playing low spots, or on smaller stages who rip it & then get invited back to play in a higher position. It happened with 5FDP & made sense. I don’t think anyone would complain if Slash were bought back to play 3rd from top or Cancer Bats got an early mainstage slot but having a 2nd stage headliner…any 2nd stage headliner come back & play another high profile slot is shocking.

Has this happened anywhere before? Were Bloc Party subbing at R&L when they got brought back the following year?

I dont understand your issue? even though I'm not mad keen on BFMV, its undeniable that they are the biggest heavy metal band this country has produced since iron maiden. playing 2nd on main stage is the prefect place for them, because like it or not - they are the headliners of the future.

They were only on the second stage, and a lot of people would have missed them to see Them Crooked Vultures over on the main stage. Besides, a band of their stature is hardly going to be unwanted by most of the crowd even if they played last year. As long as it's not half the line-up that's the same, I don't think it's really a problem to have a few bands from last year.

There aren't that many bands to choose from anyway - who else is available, and big enough to fill a sub-headliner slot? I'm sure there are plenty of relatively obscure/niche bands out there that could arguably do it, but they're not going to sell tickets and draw a crowd like popular bands such as Bullet can.

I watched TCV last year, and will gladly watch BFMV this year. so I dont have a problem. yeah - 2 years back to back might be seen as excessive, but bear in mind Placebo and Biffy played reading every year more or less for about 7 years.

at least this way AC can justify giving them the top bill in 2013.

Kasabian at V?

played second stage in 2004

headlined second stage in 2006

subbed on main in 2007

headlined main stage in 2010

They did the whole headlined 2nd stage and then subbbed main the following year

AND Bloc Party at Reading!

2004 - played second stage

2005 - headlined second stage

gap year - played V

2007 - 3rd down on main stage

2008 - subbed on main stage

2009 - subbed on main stage

2010 - Kele played solo

Bloc Party is way worse IMO

Yeah I knew you were going and I expected it to be good after last year tbh. Time and money though, time & money... :(

ETA : I purposely avoided reviews of the tour for bullet so that I wouldn't have it rammed down my throat how good they were & I'd missed a treat so thanks for springing it on me here... LOL ;)
