Primal Scream

They're playing Bestival this year so I'm not sure if they'll be at Reading or Leeds, but then I'll be at Bestival and I'm waiting to see the line-up before I decide to go to Leeds so you never know.

I'd personally shove them on as headliners on the main stage - especially if they're doing Screamadelica along with some of their other hits from XTRMNTR and Vanishing Point - but looking at some of the other rumours I'd put them realistically as sub-headliners or NME headliners at the most.

I just saw that they've been doing the 'hits' set before. Why not after? I think that'd work better. If they did headline NME they'd be pretty pushed for time, so if they did Screamadelica (which they'd more than likely do) they'd be pretty limited in what hits they could play, and I'd want to hear some XTRMNTR stuff...

I'm actually going to go out on a limb and say that I prefer XTRMNTR to Screamadelica solely based on the fact that it's a more Primal Scream album than Screamadelica is. Screamadelica is a great album - arguably the 3rd best of the 90s behind 'Loveless' at no. 1 and 'Nevermind' at no. 2 - but it's Andy Weatherall through and through; he's probably a lot more responsible for the sound on that album than most people give him credit. XTRMNTR is also a lot more vicious; musically, lyrically, politically...

If Screamadelica was an album designed to make people love each other under the banner of ecstasy fueled hedonism, XTRMNTR was an album designed to make people kill each other in a speed-induced rage.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet...

primal scream at manchester ritz in 2005 is one of the best gigs i've ever seen, a fantastic live band, i was right at the front and bobby gillespie was like some sort of demon during Accelerator and Swastika Eyes, sends shivers down my spine thinking about it. I'd love to see them sub the mainstage, they headlined nme last time they played

They played 2nd top in 2000, 4th top in 2003 (on a day which included bands such as Metallica, SOAD and Sum 41  )

Last time they played was 2006 when they headlined the NME tent and put on a quality show. Can see them playing 4th if they come back, and they do owe us another performance. :)
