MCR possibly ruled out?

You may, or may not be aware of a festival in Leeds called Slam Dunk.

Obviously it is no where near in size of Leeds festival but regardless it is still a festival.

Rumour has it, that this year, MCR will be playing/have been approached to play Slam Dunk by the organizers. This fits as this year the festival will have a much bigger capacity with using Millenium Square.

Slam Dunk happens before Leeds Fest.

Leeds fest headliners = Exclusives.

Slam Dunk = Festival

Therefore MCR = Non exclusive.

Thoughts?

For starters Reading will not share a headliner with another english festival, this has been covered so many times I can't believe I have to say it again.

My point is Slam Dunk (which I've been to a few times) is normally 7k people and have headliners like New Found Glory & You Me At Six and even with a increased venue size they are not gonna get a huge headliners and infact when they had Slam Dunk at Millennium Square last time they had Fallout Boy (who were playing 2k venues at the time) and not arena bands. Less than Jake are actually expected to headline and not MCR. That and it's coming from OKB who knows nothing about everything.

I do see what you were saying and if you had not gathered from my first post it was pure speculation. From what I have heard LTJ are playing but there is questions whether it will be headline or not.

Millenium Square has a capacity of 5000. They also plan to use O2 academy which is around 2500 venue size I believe. Couple that with loads of other leeds venues and it's a lot bigger. I think MCR could easily headline if they use Millenium Square.

this was still an interesting post as I have seen this being posted all over tumblr. I think your shooting down of OKB was a bit harsh... he never asserted it as a real fact. The Biffy and Wakestock comment is also valid. It is not even for certain that MCR will be headlining, there are outside possibilities of Green Day, Blur or Soundgarden. If Festival Republic carried out any research they would probably discover MCR is on the whole a poor choice which would leave them to be booked by slam dunk.

OKB sprouts bollocks and is on moderation for a reason, according to him his best friends works for a magazine and knows a 100% Iron Maiden will be headlining R&L and then he heard a rumour Take That are in talks too, Ozzy & Foo's will be at download and lots of other crap. As intresting as it may be it's still bullshit, people took him seriously last time and the crap he was saying became serious rumours.

The Wakestock/Soni comparison also doesn't work as they are put together by the same team where as Slam Dunk is completely independent.

MCR will not be at Slam Dunk, they still have tixs on sale for their arena tour and Slam Dunk's announcement is in a few weeks so for 2 months their headliner can be seen elsewhere and with the space between the end of MCR gigs and Slam Dunk is just over a month which isn't enough time to push sells. I doubt MCR would even could consider it, Millenium Square capacity is still less than their own shows and when you split that between the others bands they will be earning a lot less money.

Here is the link on the news of what Neil said last year of the headliners.

My linkhttp://www.efestivals.co.uk/news/10/100301f.shtml

Word reaches the eFestivals basement that at Reading and Leeds festivals this year you'll get to see....

Arcade Fire - returning after a few years, this time we understand that they're set to headline.

Blink 182 - after a few years away, these guys are back and we understand that this year they'll be taking one of the top slots.

And finally, the act we're least sure of but believe are the third headliner are My Chemical Romance.

As we always say with information like this, these acts are not officially confirmed, and there's the possibility that the information we've given above is wrong. We are however confident that the information we've received is good and that we fully expect to see at least two of the above (Blink 182 & Arcade Fire) confirmed as headliners later this month.

Reading Festival takes place on the bank holiday weekend, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th August at Little Johns Farm, Richfield Avenue, Reading, Berkshire, with the sister event, Leeds Festival, taking place the same wekend at Bramham Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire

EDIT: Oops wrong thread.
