Joseph92
Stated at the bottom of this article, they don't know if they will be doing festivals in the UK yet, but would like too. Wouldn't Reading & Leeds Headliners have already been organised? Meaning it is not them? http://www.xfm.co.uk/news/2011/my-chemical-romance-to-play-an-evening-with
j-j-j-j-joe!
Hm, interesting. Of course he could just be lying. But I have been dubious about them headlining for a while.
lharris92
it just means they can't talk about any festivals yet because the line ups haven't been announced

Role Model
Clutching at straws I think. Not reading anything into a typical band interview, they're not often a real source of info on this sort of thing.

rexclark
I'm pretty certain MCR will be at the fest in one way or another. People might not like it but they will just have to deal with it.

jump
I'm still suspicious that their tour ends a few days before the announcement clearing them for exclusive badge.

kev1664
Yes they are not announced for anywhere else yet which means 1 of two things. They are waiting until there tour sells out or finishes or they are r&l exclusives
Yellow_Fellow
Until the drummer left, that's fair enough in my book.
allan14
i think if they were booked for the fest last year they would have played coz they had long enough to find another drummer even if it was only a temp one!! to be honest they were just proberly never book or it was for another reason they dropped out
shinobi93
I genuinely don't think MCR won't headline. Don't think i'm someone who just doesn't want them there, I like them and am seeing them on this tour. But I actually believe Melvin has pulled something big out of the bag. To describe the headliners as staggering, he must have something in the bag or it will simply come back at him in March. Yes, the festival will sell out anyway but last year didn't have particularly strong headliners compared to other festivals if you ask me and if he simply keeps bigging the lineup up, people will turn against R/L. I know it may be a troll in the other thread, but the guy who said there is a big suprise MAY actually be in the know, and I would like to think he is right. Everybody (including Neil) had MCR nailed to headline last year and it didn't happen. Neil could be wrong again.
Sparticus
are you implying if that never happened they would have been booked?
onemangang
bit strange for them to say we have no i dear if we are playing any u.k festivals. if they were headlining you would expect them to say something like " we will see" or "yer we have had a few things put our way" not just a straight no. maybe there subbing. that only means green day will most likely headline. kev1664
Here is the link on the news of what Neil said last year of the headliners. My linkhttp://www.efestivals.co.uk/news/10/100301f.shtml Word reaches the eFestivals basement that at Reading and Leeds festivals this year you'll get to see.... Arcade Fire - returning after a few years, this time we understand that they're set to headline. Blink 182 - after a few years away, these guys are back and we understand that this year they'll be taking one of the top slots. And finally, the act we're least sure of but believe are the third headliner are My Chemical Romance. As we always say with information like this, these acts are not officially confirmed, and there's the possibility that the information we've given above is wrong. We are however confident that the information we've received is good and that we fully expect to see at least two of the above (Blink 182 & Arcade Fire) confirmed as headliners later this month. Reading Festival takes place on the bank holiday weekend, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th August at Little Johns Farm, Richfield Avenue, Reading, Berkshire, with the sister event, Leeds Festival, taking place the same wekend at Bramham Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire Plus..... Why is there two threads on the same subject anyway?

onemangang
Maybe they genuinely don't know. I suppose it would be the management that would book these things. The fact that they're doing European festivals almost certainly means they'll be doing (at least) one in the UK.
onemangang
Three points in this. First, Melvin will say the headliners are staggering regardless. There won't be an announcement a week before the tickets go on general sale of him revealing to the NME about how shit the line-up is - he'll wait until about a month after the festival has finished to announce that whenever the money has been cashed in to do that. If he has no confidence in the festival, why should we? Second, the festival WILL sell out. People can complain about the line-up before it has even been announced if they wish though it's more sensible to complain about the bands AFTER they have been announced, but for every one of us there will be a mad, almost schizophrenic rush of people waiting to slam £200 down to get a ticket. Most people don't give a toss about the bands playing so long as the pop culture addicts among us get their fix and feel the rush of excitement flowing through their veins when they see words to the effect of "congratulations on your purchase of 4 x Reading 2011 tickets" on their computer screens. The day ticket holders have more passion for the music at the festival than a lot of the weekend ticket holders do. Third, people will only turn against Reading and Leeds if the organisers put on a whole host of truly awful bands and artists - and even then, when they have alienated the "typical" crowd at Reading and Leeds, there will still be an audience for the sort of tasteless shit we all dread to see there.
