I thinks its classically based on 'hits' for a band like that, The Scorpions are great and sell records etc. but Def Leppard have more mass appeal because they had bigger hits.

There's no numbers in that explanation, just what i think.

For anyone who hasn't ready this it says Van Halen are thinking about doing dates outside of the US, with Australia one of the options, but they won't do anything until new material is out, and that will at least be August, so basically Van Halen aren't playing Download, nothing new there.

RIGHT Mr Copping has been Twitting his little heart out tonight

-The Announcement is up to 19 acts

-He wants more than that for the announcement

-Friday headliner WILL still be announced

-Friday SUB headliner will NOT be announced, he's saving it for a future announcement as it will be 'MONSTER' news, already everyone is speculating its Velvet Revolver with the new singer, which sounds about right.

-He's ruled out today Def Leppard, Tool, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Rammstein

-Wouldn't say if the Friday headliner has played Download before.

-Says the announcement will be a mix of returning acts to Download and ones that haven't played before.

From that Im guessing its My Chemical Romance or Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are far too big to be announced with another 19 or so bands at the same time.

So....its either MCR or The Scorpions.

....or ManOwar :ph34r::P

tho i dont think you can 100% rule out Van Halen, i remember Aerosmith last year with the Steven Tyler fiasco and everyone was like "well its no chance its them.....doubtful buy ya never know. I think Van Halen is defently the headliner he's already booked for 2012 tho

Actually looking at Twitter when Andy Copping ruled out Maiden, Soundgarden and Tool etc. The guy who twittered him that, then replied "Dont forget My Chemical Romance aswell" which Copping then replies along the lines of "well that wouldnt go down well".....So does that rule out MCR aswell then? So I can only really think of The Scorpions now, or maybe even Velvet Revolver with Taylor?.....haha if its ManOwar now luckysalt you have to officialy resign from these boards or just beg for my forgivness. hehe :P

Why would VR suddenly be a headlining act after subbing before.

This headliner is a complete mystery at the moment, MCR seems like a decent shout now but I dunno. It seems odd that it's still not been confirmed and stuff which makes it very hard to figure out.

dont listen to copping "ruling out" anyone. we all know he's a liar. he ruled out zombie.

VR would be a travesty, I think they will be sub tho.

I'm still holding out for tool and halen. the press release about VH could be a preemptive strike to put people off the scent.

I genuinely have no idea who the third headliner could be.

Which excites/worries me in equal amounts i think.

But then i had no idea theyd get Aerosmith last year so maybe there is hope....maybe.

I think by saying the sub headliners are a monster annoucement either undermines the headliners or he simply needs the third headliners in place to actually sell tickets and also needs to hold a big band back for the next annoucement of a lot of bands to keep the excitement going for fans and to keep the festival in the public eye. It's business sense. If the majority of what is left to be booked is lower stages and lower bill acts people arnt gonna be as interested in future annoucements.

I now can't even be bothered guessing who the 3rd headliner is, im more looking forward to the other act's being anounced soon.

Only 1 place for me to be last thing on the Friday..Watching the mighty Danzig

Bring on Rise Against,Social D,Frank Turner, scorpions and asking alexandria that will do me.

Cos i think Andy Copping is seriously desperate for this final headliner, plus the Corry Taylor thing....and cos literally everything else seems to have been ruled out. And dya know what folks, im gona rule out VR aswell now...Duff McKagans Loaded band are playing Nova Rock the Download weekend. Cant see him switching between 2 bands for 2 different countries for 2 Fests over the same weekend....highly doubtful!

Copping has ruled out MCR on twitter. and has also just ruled out Soundgarden, Maiden, Tool, Def Leppard, Mettalica. And on the basis of I highly doubt he's gona announce a huge band like The Chili Peppers at the same time as 19 other acts. So im ruling the Chilis out too. When he announced bands in huge groups last year its because the announcement was literally crap.

...so the only band i can think of that can be passed off as headliners and that are available are 'The Scorpions' then
