the_hedge
True, but it has even less imagination than reading. The same bands seem to play every year really, and very few of them are 'exclusive'. I just wonder how it seems to be doing better than Reading at the moment. jump
Daft as it sounds, one of the biggest things that atrract people to V is that it's only 2 days. The main demographic at V don't want to camp for 5 nights and have 3 days of music. They want 'festival light' and mainstream music. I know so many groups of girls that go to V and they go because it's not hard work to get through the weekend unlike other festivals. In fact I don't have any male friends who go to V any more, it all females and large groups of them. The fact they can charge 3 day festival prices and only put on 2 days with very little entertainment other than the bands gives them mnore cash to throw at bands as well. t8yman
reading has become a victim of its own success IMHO. my first reading was 2001, and it was a great weekend, plenty of room, relaxed camping (in orange we could even camp next to our cars - for about 4 years we did that) and you could sit on the floor in the middle of the R1 tent to watch bands of great quality in the afternoon, only standing when the bands came on. you could get between the stages easily, always get served, always find your mates if yu got split up, always take a piss, and it was pretty chilled. as each year went by, it got gradually more and more regimented, and last my last full reading was 2 years ago, I went for one day last year, and I'm not going this year - nor are the 13 mates I used to go with. I did DL and soni instead. ramming all of those people into that field, and treating them like cattle doesn't make for a great time.
