It's the Brits tonight ..... so I'm wondering if Michael is going, and Glasto are thinking he's bound to blab so they might as well announce Coldplay before he does.

Uninspiring and yet also unsurprising.

Apart from McCartney & to a certain extent Springsteen (I know we differ on this one Neil but Ive agreed that it didnt live up to expectation) and of course Jay Z, the Sat night headliner on the Pyramid since the 1990s has always been safe & predicticable - sometimes just plain dull.

Coldplay

Muse

Springsteen

Jay Z

The Killers

Coldplay

McCartney

Radiohead

Stereophonics

Travis

Manic Street Preachers

Blur

Radiohead

Pulp

Out of all of the above only Pulp, Macca and Radiohead '97 are considered "triumphant". Couple of them have been distinctly average for a show of such media profile & exposure.

I think you've been at least a little unfair there - for a start you've missed out Bowie, which should be in your "triumphant" list.

And it's also the case that acts can look both better or worse with hindsight - the likes of The Killers, and Muse (both times), were appropriate bookings for the time.

Yes, it's often the case that the headliners are "unsurprising" - but that's because there's only a certain number of acts who are really suitable to have as headliners.

And of course, when Glastonbury does go out on a limb and book someone that IS surprising - such as Jay-Z or Beyonce - they're then considered by some to be bad bookings.

I think Glastonbury's ability to get it about right for that time just about every time is proven by the yearly instant sell-out, and the likes of Jay-Z being generally considered a great success despite all that was said beforehand.

Dare i say it, i'm looking forward to the set. Especially with the prospect of jay z turning up as he may be there to support bouncy. They have the ability to play a good set. They are also one of the bands that are genuinely excited to be at Glastonbury and happy to headline, compare them to money grabbing rolling stones and i'm happy to have them headline my festival.

Hurrah!

As I've said before, I was not a fan BEFORE I saw them live.

Their performance changed my opinion completely.

I've since seen them many times - they never fail to impress.

They will be fantastic at Glasto. It will be a performance involving all who see it in the best spirit of the fest. I, for one, cannot wait. My other half will be very happy.
