Very happy over here. just waiting for all the naysayers to crop up on this thread

Seen them live twice, they were my first ever live concert. Arena, Stadium now Festival. Beaut.

To those who have never seen them and will be slagging them off, If I were you I'd give them a chance. Their songs come alive on stage in much the same way Springsteen's or Neil Young's do - and to be honest any band worth their proverbial salt.

Boring but unsurprising.

U2, Coldplay, Beyonce.

Whatever happened to glastonbury being the festival to give "smaller" bands a shot at the bigtime? Reading booking Arcade Fire is the sort of thing glastonbury should be doing, rather than wetting its panties just because the likes of beyonce fancy doing them a patronising favour by playing on the cheap.

I'd much rather see a band of the size and stature of Elbow given a chance to make the step up. What's the worst that could happen?

Glastonbury seems to be obsessed with booking supersonic megastars these days, and the punters are going to be disappointed when the huge acts get bored of playing there on the cheap and the festival has to go back to its old policy.

It's all about getting the headlines in the Sun these days.

Theres two Pyramid headliners I wont be watching this year then. Happy enough with it though, Coldplay and Beyonce will both draw big crowds too.

Hopefully I’ll go off and catch something wacky in the Glade or summat.

That said, Friday and Sunday have shown much greater risk taking (and in my opinion success) than their marquee night on the Beeb,

Erm .... surely Beyonce is exactly the sort of thing you're moaning about - a smaller act having a shot at the big time? It's a step up for her, little different to how it would be if they'd booked Arcade Fire instead of her. Just because it's not an act you're personally taken with doesn't change it from that.

Beyonce is also an act from the music that currently the most popular sort. If Glastonbury didn't follow the trends (for headliners and lower down the bill) then it risks getting left behind (which I suspect is a thing that might come to impact on some other fests in coming years).

It books 'megastars' because that's what shifts tickets. That applies with Glastonbury just as it does with other fests, despite the fact that Glastonbury sells all of its tickets before the bands are known - those tickets are being sold on the expectation of Glastonbury maintaining its position of getting the acts of all types that appeal to people, and it keeps succeeding at that however much some of what it does might not be to some individuals personal tastes.

That's a bit of an assumption. I'm pretty sure Elbow will play - new album, friends of the festival etc.

I'm far from convinced about Arcade Fire playing however much I want them to. I'm not sure there has ever been a band as popular as Arcade Fire sub headline the Pyramid before. Hopefully they'll play opposite U2 if they do play. The 4 main stage headliners mentioned so far do not inspire me at all - I know, personal taste etc etc :)

Well I like them live after seeing them on the Viva tour. Lively, bouncy, visual show with great variation of performance styles. None of that whiny shit they did back in 05.

Will still probably go and see the Chems though.

I'm quite happy with this (although there's no way I'll be watching it).

They're a good live band if you like that sort of thing. They'll put a bit of effort into it and put on a good show for the thousands of fans they have.

Plus it means there's another headline clash I'm not worried about!

Actually having two main acts that I have no interest in makes it easier for me.

Its highly likely that I will be working late at night so if it was a act I was interested in then I would have to arrange cover so this announcement saves all the hassle - sure we don't know what else is on but its the Pyramid stage that gives me the most hassle as its tricky to leave for me to be certain I can reach where I will be working by a specific time - the acoustic stage is further away but far easier to predict the journey time.

I've been lurking on these boards since October, but had to post.....very happy to see Coldplay, although I suspect the rest of my group may abandod me on my own....well as alone as you can be in a crowd of 100,000!!

Going to my 1st Glastonbury, infact my 1st ever festival, and am so excited I've hardly been able to sleep since I got the tickets!

This is all working out perfectly for me. Two headliners so far confirmed which I might fancy, but might not. If someone I really love is playing or I fancy a Shangri-La wander I don't mind missing them but if the mood takes me I'd happily watch both Coldplay and Beyonce.
