I think after Andy blew his top yesterday about Metal Hammer leaked the announcement nearly an hour early, no-one in the media will be risking leaking tonight, but anyone who's managed to get their hands on the mag, well thats completely different.

If it is avaliable in areas tonight, then surely someone will take a pic and upload it

If they do actually book the darkness, it will just show how massively out of touch AC is.

I bet if they did a reunion tour it wouldn't sell out academy sized venues.

Its Def Leppard :(

Joining Linkin Park and System Of A Down as headliners of this year's Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival will be British rock icons Def Leppard!

"It'll be a quarter of a century since we first played at Donington [in 1986], and we're coming back to headline - twice in three years!" Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott tells Kerrang!.

"Last time we headlined Download in 2009, it was incredible," he adds. "There was a great vibe backstage and out front, too. The reaction we got from the audience was amazing. We have too much fun doing this!"

Be sure to pick up tomorrow's Kerrang! magazine to discover 16 other new additions to the bill!

I understand what Copping is trying to do with download.

It's just his musical knowledge and repertoire consists of the classic rock he listened to 20 years ago, and the major label stuff kerrang push a teenagers.

I have a sift spot for some heavy rock, but download represents the most middle and mundane and uninspiring of heavy rock music....

I might go for system of a down & the craic.... but I can't help feel i'd have nothing much in common with the download demographic.

i dont understand the reaction, i mean yes they played two years ago, but who else was available? Ozzy Osbourne had already been snapped up by two other festivals that weekend, ruiling him out. Other bands he may of wanted or approached pulled out or changed touring schedule/pattern

The rumours were

Def Leppard

The Darkness ( probably sub headline)

Ozzy ( already playing elsewhere)

Tool ( looking unlikley to be in europe this summer)

MCR ( imagine that, plus probs at reading)

Red hot chilli peppers ( not sure what is going on with them. would they go down well at download?)

Pearl Jam ( doesnt look like they are doing anything this summer)

Soundgarden ( again, no words from them)

Foo Fighters ( IOW)

Van Halen ( guessing they are deciding to play 2012 instead)

what else is there left? Its not as easy as picking a band and expecting them to play. Weeks of negotiating goes in the process, and it probably isnt helped by stupid inbred internet fanboys complaining about the lack of announcements and picking apart and dissecting every announcement. Dont want repeat bookings? Don't listen to metal. Reading, IOW, TITP etc have a bigger pool of talent to choose from as they arnt restricted to just Metal/Hard rock.

I'm glad this didn't happen as it would have made a horrible clash for me, but I'd have thought even Bullet For My Valentine would have been a better headliner choice. Okay, so they're a bit on the small side - but it's good to give smaller bands the chance to step up sometimes (eg. Lostprophets, My Chemical Romance, Faith No More, Slipknot etc.).
