Just wanted to see peoples thoughts on the fact that download have booekd def leppard Even though they headlined only 2 years ago, becuase to me it sounds like such a stupid idea and i wonder if anyone thinks its a good idea and that other festivals may do the same?

the only similar instance of this happening i know of is Block party Sub headlining 2 years in a row...

Ow yhr i tottaly forgot about soni (hits head- hard) then again if i remember correctly don't metalica have some money invested in sonisphere and/or helped create it? and i do remeber around the time of the festival it was suggested mettalica would play again for the 3rd year...

tbh i also think soni is allowed to get away with it for the fact its a new festival and if billing metallica again is going to allow sell tickets and promote it so it can survive for the next 6 years (as its contract is only for 3 years) then its probbaly a good thing they are

Metallica is only apart of the equation, I doubt Soni would of booked Metallica on their own this year without the other 3.

I have said the same thing to my mate, he didn't want to go to the 1st Soni as he saw Metallica loads of times but now he wants to go for the Big 4 and I pointed out to him bitches about repeat headliners.

A thing to remember about Soni as well is that last year they only had two proper headliners. This year they announced the Saturday and Sunday Headliners, then the Big 4, or Metallica as a separate headliner, whatever way you see it, was an extra bonus, to what everyone was expecting.

Its fairly common knowledge on the Metallica forums that Metallica signed a three year deal with Sonisphere. They were always gonna be back at Knebworth this year whether or not the whole Big 4 tour ever happened

Festivals book what they believe to be the best bands avalible to them, within there budget and most likely to sell tickets at that given time. That's it.

There's no patern, no conspiracy, that's just what happens.

They'l try (and almost certainly succeed) to get headliners who haven't played in a while, but of course Reading would book K0L, Arctic Monkeys or Radiohead again this year if it was a choice of them or much smaller bands that wouldn't sell half as many tickets.
