why are thin lizzy so low on the bill??

it looks like they are going to be playing 5th or 6th from the top of the bill on fri main stage(they are in small print on the poster too)

theyve just completed a 18 date sold out uk tour in decent sized venues(pretty impressive when you consider that most bands seem to think that a few dates in london manchester and birmingham is a full uk tour)

i know its (obviously) not the full line up but it seems they still have the pulling power.

p.s. on a separate note,is vivian cambell playing with lizzy and leppard on the same day??

Because the obsessives go see them at their own gigs, and they aren't a big attraction to anyone else. Not many people, myself included, know that much more than the major hits, and would enjoy a 30 min set more than an hour set. And of course, giving them a higher slot means paying them more, which isn't justified based on their power at pulling fans to a festival.

Well, a lot of people just can't imagine Lizzy without Phil Lynott. Although they seem to have been doing well in the US and on tour, there is still something of a "Hmm, let's see" attitude towards them among non-aficionados. Remember a couple of years ago Alice in Chains also played low on the lineup with a new singer, and also Journey. So if Lynott was still around, they would probably headline, but he's not.

i saw them on this current tour and they were awesome. great band playing great songs.obviuosly no lynott but the crowd went mad for every song and atmos was great.

i suppose its up to the individual,if youre going to appreciate the music of a great artist played brilliantly by a new band as a 25 year anniversary of his death then i guarantee you will have a great time but if youre going to fold your arms saying that its not as good as when lynott was in the band then obviously you wont be won over as no-one can replace lynott(and to be fair, they're not trying to)

It's a weird one since some bands can pull it off only having a few members. Smashing pumpkins seem to be doing ok, and it's only billy who's left in the band now (Although by his own admission is a complete control freak).

Could be worse, I'm pretty sure lynyrd syknyrd only have the drummer left now and the rest of the band are hired hands.

The sole original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd is guitarist Gary Rossington, although, it could be argued the ex-Blackfoot guitarist and now a member of Skynyrd, Rickey Medlocke could be an original member as he started off as the bands drummer..

Hardly hired hands either, singer Johnny Van Zant who is the brother of original singer Ronnie Van Zant has been a member since the bands reformation in 1987..

That is the real shame about Download, it criminally passes on Southern rock.

Hired hands may have been a bit harsh, but the point I was making is people get put off by the tribute stigma, also you can count the number of bands on one hand who have changed singers and then gone on to better their commercial success (I can think of ac/dc, who released back in black as the comeback after bon's death, and faith no more since they went massive as soon as real thing came out with patton).

Must be weird for johnny van zant though, I mean it's great that he gets to celebrate his brother's memory, but twenty odd years of living in another man's shadow, couldn't do that.
