Yeah, I'm now resigned to it being PJ Harvey, who either bores or grates on me depending on how loud the particular track is.

That way, if it's not I can be suddenly happy!!!

Whatever happens now, it is looking like the worst line up so far for me (as in not suiting my tastes - not as in being weak).....but hey, ho, I'm sure I'll have a great time.

Might not be so quick to buy an early bird.......nah, bet I do!

Geof, does your PJH assessment include the new record? It is truly excellent. One of those rarer occasions when universal press acclaim seems to be justified and accurate. I've never been a big fan - saw her only once before supporting Morrissey when she was very screechy. but then again I wasn't there to see her. the new record is absolutely fantastic and I for one am hoping she'll be announced so I can immerse myself in acquaintance with the good stuff within her back catalogue.

Not heard the new one - and you know me, I'll give it a go...

But (like Beirut, Wild beasts and quite a few others on the bill actually) I really, really, really do not like her voice.

I've never gotten on with "affected" voices....Patti Smith, Siouxsie Sioux....funny you should mention Morrissey....he has to be the ultimate.

The Electric Picnic is taking place the same weekend as EoTR, and the lineup has just been announced.

A lot of overlap with EoTR: Beirut, Midlake, Twin Shadow, Willy Mason, Caitlin Rose, Health, Mogwai, The Walkmen and Micah P. Hinson (and Pulp, if we assume Jarvis will DJ EoTR :D).

Which is interesting, because also playing Electric Picnic are....PJ Harvey and Interpol. I suspect the odds of one of those two being the third headliner may just have dropped.

(And seeing as I'm speculating: DJ Shadow or Death in Vegas for the 'Caribou slot'? The Charlatans or Sinead O'Connor? I'm going to take a wild guess that we don't get Pulp, Arcade Fire or Chemical Brothers...)

firstly, im going to try a firm "it isnt all about the headliners" thaang.

last five festivals i have seen 3 out of a possible 15 main stage headliners (assuming you dont count half an hour catching modest mouse while lolling on the cushions in the cafe next to the garden stage) and had a brilliant time on each occasion. second stage has been best for me/us for most of the time, whether thats caribou, the national or amadou & mariam. i think most of you know this really, but main stage doesnt make the festival, just its headlines.

second, this forum is so incredibly positive (ben = top of class) you just know it will be good (he says, as a one year veteran). i spend far too much time on the latitude forums and there caribou self announcing recently was met with a general meh. anyone in the tipi last year knows how wrong that is.

finally, on the basis of no knowledge and ridiculous hope, despite previous posts im going for the national as third headliner. they just announced an edinburgh gig which almost certainly ties them into reading / leeds for the august bank w/e. add in a possible london date the following week and why not go to dorset for early september?

I agree with alot of you that the headliners do nothing for me at all but the gr8 thing about EOTR is the festival itself. The gr8 ambience and feel of the place. I can name a dozen bands that are worth seeing this year Caitlin Rose, John Grant, Dan Mangan and Wild Beasts just to name some. Don't forget the comedy stage, the cinema and cider bus 2 investigate so lighten up!!

I'm with Riverlodge, hanging on to a tiny glimmer of hope that they'll finally snag The National. However hard I try I can't quite let it go. I know it probably isn't going to happen, it's just that the schedule looks like a fit, which is kind of frustrating if it doesn't come off.

Not fussed about Beirut or Mogwai so it would be lovely to have one great band to complete the line up. If/when it turns out not to be TN, only Sufjan or Bright Eyes would compensate. Or maybe Bill Callahan. Or the Black Keys

Absolutely loving the under bill though. For me it's much stronger than last year's. Especially excited about Midlake, John Grant, Wild Beasts, Perfume Genius, Cass McCombs and White Denim. All featured on my wish list so absolutely no complaints. Kurt Vile and The Walkmen - also fantastic and there'll be loads more to discover. It's going to be an amazing few days. I can't wait.

good post ben.

you'll have noticed that nigey boy (amongst others?) has signed up here, so the refugees (incl me) are gradually working out where the best place is.

btw my positive points were that the line up will be ace whatever (and like you i like my PR eg 52 commercial road=baby EITS) and that i hold out a small candle for TN being third headliner.

With you there Ben, Peej would be fantastic. I've only seen her once, back when she was touring To Bring You My Love. That was one of only two gigs I ever went to at the short-lived Que Club in Brum, the other was Pulp, and both still easily rank up among at least my top 20, if not top 10 all-time gigs.

I agree the undercard is stronger.....it just unfortunate there's only John Grant that I already count among my favourites (there's usually at least 10 or so) - and there are quite a few I don't happen to like.

As I said, it'll still be fab, plenty I know I'll enjoy at the time and there are already quite a few I've investigated and am starting to love, Dan Mangan, Cass McCombs, Treefight for Sunlight particularly.

Hahaha I tried to post a reply to you Geoff...and it came out blank, which pretty much sums up how I feel too. There are some smaller bands I am looking forward to like Tree Fight for Sunlight.... but If I hadnt got an earlybird I'm not sure I would be rushing to buy a ticket. Just seen the line up for Truck and wishing I could go there instead. xx

Personally I am as happy with this line-up as I have been with any other line-up. OK, so the Garden Stage headliners aren't my cup of tea but there's so many great bands on the bill that I'm very excited about seeing. And as others have said, it's just a great weekend, regardless of whether your very favourite bands are playing or not.

For some reason I had thought that Polly H was doing the UK festival rounds. but on reviewing the list on her website, there are, indeed NO UK festivals listed (a little like Midlake who are doing Electric Picnic, but nothing in the UK itself). Sooooooooooooooooo...

...IT IS POLLY HARVEY. Official.

Ben

PS - which is bloody GREAT 'news'!
