Hi

I could do with some advice please - my 15 year old daughter wants to attend this years festival with her 17 year old boyfiend and another couple who are c17. Will she be able to get a 3 night ticket and is she really old enough? She's not really into this kind of music so will she enjoy it and above all will she be safe - she's been to loads of concerts but no other festivals so not sure waht to expect.

Cheers

A very over protective Mother

I've been to loads of festival from 2005 onwards from ones like download, to indie ones like leeds, to glasto and dance-ish ones like rock ness.

Download is one of the friendliest festivals I've been to, never seen any real bother. The worst offender was rock ness, which is the opposite of Download in music and what not. That's a disgusting festival.

Downloads super good!

I went Leeds at 15 and was fine. Download is a lot safer then Leeds too tbh, so yeah, why not.

In terms of enjoying it, er, not sure. Download really is about the music and if you take that out it's just living like a tramp for 5 days. Can get pretty nasty, especially if it rains and stuff, a lot of walking at Download too. Will never know if she doesn't try it though.

people at festivals are very nice and honest. everyone is there to have a good time and to look out for one anther, it's very rare to get in any trouble unless your looking for it.. im sure she wil be ok. wish i would have been going to festivals when i was 15, younger the better i say.

also it will be a great experience for her.

I have taken my son to festivals every year since he was 5 and to Download every year since 2006 and never had any bother whatsoever you have to remember that there are 60k likeminded people there for a good time and the music and just to keep your wits about you regarding valuables etc

I reckon it should be fine - Download is much friendlier, safer and attended by more mature fans than some other festivals, so she ought to be okay there. It's also not exclusively a metal festival - there is plenty of rock and alternative music, so she should enjoy that side of it too (as long as she's not expecting any indie or pop or anything, of course).

safety-wise Im sure she'll be fine, but there isn't much else to do so apart from the music, so if that's not to her taste she may not have a good time - especially if the weather's bad. I'd get her to check the line-up before the ticket gets bought as the closer to the fest we get the more bands will have been announced and the better the idea she will have whether or not its for her, musically. Its reasonably diverse though, so I'd be surprised if there's literally nothing she likes!

ETA : age is not really relevant. I know some 30 year-olds who shouldn't be allowed out without a minder.. ;¬)

Im sure if you thought she was too young you'd just say 'no'.
