laptop advice

No. I don't know why people don't use it more to be honest. Its basically systems that were cancelled at the last minute and returned to Dell. They're not faulty or anything. All come with warranty too and were all retested after they were returned. They're brand new.

The prices you see on there are only 1 year warranty, to add 3 year is £130 extra (where Dell make the money back on them <_< ). I wouldn't bother to be honest for the price. If youre going to buy a cheap system, keep it cheap and take the risk. Systems rarely f**k up these days except the odd hard drive failure. And you should always keep a backup of your hard drive anyway if theres anything valuable on there to lose.

refurb i'm not too keen on.

there's a couple samsung's i like the look of on dab, however i'm confused by the whole browser and ram thing.

one has Samsung R730 P T4500 2.3 GHz and 3GB ram but the other has Samsung R730 P P6100 2.13 GHz and 4GB ram.

which is the better to go for as obviously one looks the better processor but with less ram. what's more important? price says the processor, but i thought more ram was better to be able to do more stuff?

final question, honest :P

Avoid Acer, Lenovo are basically just IBM.

I would avoid PC World too... overpriced compared to buying online.

I would go for a budget of about £400 to get a decent one, as Nal says.. avoid Celeron and try go for an i3 or i5 if affordable. If you get one with a HDMI output you can stream your HD videos etc straight to your telly.

cool. what about intel pentium? or the one i said before on the samsung?

hdmi i did try on the previous laptop but it was too shit so i just burned the movies to disc to watch on bluray player. hdmi was fiddly to work with it as well, ended up having to use the piinny adaptor to use with the telly.

will i still be able to download and burn movies onto dvd's with them though?

this!

though i've gots a 1080i tv.

well i've come to the decision to buy online with my credit card. infinity plan from pc world is a con (paying around £1100 for a sony over 2 years) and better off with my 16.9% than their 21%.

so, it's between:

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/HP_G72-b20SA_1002919.html

thoughts please? i like the big screen on the hp but it's not crucial. saw the sony in pc world and i really like the look of it.

For what it's worth, I hate laptops. You get far more bang for your bucks with desktops and can upgrade as you go along - for example going for a bigger screen or adding an extra HDD.or more memory. You can also then have a decent keyboard and mouse and flexibility in terms of connectivity - for example I've got three different printers attached to my desktop for different jobs.

Both very similar spec, the Lenovo with a bigger hard drive, the Sony with ever so slightly faster proc (nothing noticable though). Bigger screen though.. and it has TV tuner etc..

The Lenovo looks smarter, but depends on portability and how often you would use the laptop outwith your home.

if your thinking of sony theres an outlet on the sony site where they sell off older models and returns cheap, I picked up a £2200 z series for around £750 6 months ago, think the solid state drive is worth £400 on its own.
