jol33n
Quite surprised to see Kurt Vile on someone's "not see" list. I saw him in a small bar in Madrid and it was excellent. His new album is very good, for those who liked Childish Prodigy. One of this year's highlight. I can't say the same for the new Mogwai. I do love post rock but this is taken to some road I'm a bit scared of. Nonetheless, quite hard for me to make a must see list, some bands I've seen before and I really want to see them again but would happily sideline for something new. Anyway, here's a shot: Must see Midlake Best Coast Wooden Shjips Bob Log III The Black Angels White Denim Must see AGAIN Kurt Vile Wild Beasts HEALTH Mogwai Beirut Happily see Tinariwen Lykke Li Bo Ningen Emanuel & The Fear Wild Nothing Twin Shadow John Grant Lightning Dust Don't mind missing Laura Marling Joanna Newsom Jolie Holland I'm either indifferent to the rest or I don't know them well enough. I might sound sexist putting just solo females as a miss list. Although I'd probably check out Joanna Newsom to catch a glimpse of hotness
Better Late...
As usual there are loads of bands in the line up that I have absolutely no clue about, but it will be my third EOTR and the festival hasn't let me down yet. It's easy to get from one stage to another sampling what's on offer and staying longer at those I find I'm enjoying, and it's rare for a long spell to pass with nothing I'm enjoying enough to linger at. paulwa
Nice one RealEarthMother, I second this recommendation. The first 2 albums are great. I'd put in a recommendation for White Denim. If you like garage bluesy type stuff, that goes off in a slightly proggy turn from time to time, you will like them a lot I think. They put out an excellent download album a couple of months back via their website - Last Days of Summer. It was free and is really good. Give it a listen. bennyhana22
I was going to post to encourage people to list those EOTR bands that they are truly excited about seeing. By this, I mean that they would pay to go see them at their local venue tomorrow, even if they really should be spending the money on something else. So, you might exclude a band that you really like because you've already seen them recently - i.e. the EOTR set won't be so special. Or you are seeing them before EOTR. For me, that list comprises: Okkervil River Beirut The Leisure Society Other Lives The Deadly Syndrome Brakes Don't get me wrong, I am really looking forward to so may other bands, but these 5 have a particular draw for me - for instance, I've seen Midlake twice in the past year, so despite adoring them, they can't make the list for that reason alone. It's just possible that I'm going to be more excited about seeing Other Lives than any other band at EOTR. They are bloody brilliant. almal
well i'm paying to see tune-yards next week, so them.
baroquepop
Today, 3 CDs from Amazon landed on my doormat... Tune-yards - WHOKILL This already hits the spot as I knew it would from previous exposure. My kind of thing. The Unthanks - Here's the Tender Coming This is a pleasant listen, traditional folk-style vocal with a folk-orchestral sound. Mogwai - Special Moves I'm struggling! Post-rock isn't my thing but I wanted to check them out properly. It comes with a DVD (good value!) so maybe if I see them on the TV it might help :-/ What CD should I get next? seadragon
Arrggh the more I listen, the more my must and want lists grow! I need to add The Love Language, Gordon Gano & The Ryans, The Growlers, Health, This Frontier Needs Heroes and Oher Lives at the very least to my 'want to see' list and more than likely to my 'must see' list if I listen to them too much more... bennyhana22
Which album, seadragon? Or both? I 'got hold' of Tamer Animals first and loved it, only then to get to the self-titled and feel that it might just shade its follow-up. All I would say is that if you've only got one, get the other one too. Just fantastic. I have a genuine, 'proper' excitement about this band. Something that I don't get very often and occurs when my interest in a band, my desire to see them live, own their music etc transcends merely thinking that they are pretty damned good. Listening NOW, just as I finish off my shift at work. God they're good. I'm a bit taken by Other Lives. Can you tell...? seadragon
Haha I had noticed I've only got the S/T album so far...the other one has eluded me so far, but I'll find it if you recommend it that highly!
