Granted there is little evidence to suggest Blur will play. But one would assume they're not just going to get back together for the Brits? & if they are going to play some big dates, where else is there? I can't see them doing Hyde Park as Damon is in Dr Dee until the 7th of July, Glasto isn't on, so the only other option really would be T in the Park, but they played there during their 09 reunion.

There's more out there than just that to point towards them playing. I think you have to remember R&L is a very different festival to what it was a couple of years ago. The demographic and make-up of the crowd has changed, making a booking like Jay/Kanye more acceptable. People seem to be forgetting Jay had already booked to headline R&L, as well as people in the same kind of genre as Jay/Kanye previously headlining and having very high slots at the fest. Add that to FR having booked Kanye for The Big Chill last year, it puts them definitely in with a shout.

As I keep saying though, Damon is staring in the opera Dr Dee from mid June to the 7th of July, which would leave very little time for rehearsals with Blur, which for a show as big as Hyde Park, a band that's been inactive since 09 would need. I really can't see them playing there.

You have a point here. I can't see V happening, Wireless is possible as Jay - Z has taken that before and Kanye played Gobal or Cream?

At the minute:

T to have Jay-Z, Lady GaGa and The Killers/Snow Patrol I don't think would be far out.

R&L to have Foo Fighters, The Killers and Blur. The Killers is directly IMO looking at the young audience, and in Blur, they appeal very broadly.

NME headliners at the max we could get

Pixies (These would go down very well subbing The Killers to though)

TDCC

Enter Shikari

Justice

Lostprophets

I really cannot believe how many people are believing that Jay Z is going to headline and really cannot see the basis on peoples thinking behind it.

I don't "believe" he's going to headline, but he defo could.

He's been booked for near the top of the bill before (but cancelled), nearly 10 years ago now. And he's massively bigger now than then.

And R/L are less of a rock & indie fest than it was. It's primary focus is "new music", and if the "new music" they cover doesn't include the most popular form of new music then what future does it have.

It might not happen with Jay Z but sooner or later (and sooner is the more likely) they'll be an act like that as headliner.

But the Hyde Park gigs are always usually in mid July? & it might only be only 8 or so performances of Dr Dee, but imagine how much rehearsal time it must take up? He's not going to be rehearsing with Blur at the same time. I'm not saying they're definitely not playing in Hyde Park, I don't have a clue if they'll even tour, I was just pointing out that it seems less likely they'll do Hyde Park than R/L, but I maybe wrong.

opps, didnt see the vaccines in twice, saying that they played two slots at titp or radio1's big weekend.. so its not a huge error;) didnt have a clue who could sub daft punk, which is why i took a stab and put pendulum exclusive in. and no i dont think smashing pumpkins could headline, they didnt sell out their last academy tour, so they wouldnt shift enough tickets for r+l.

Smashing Pumpkins would be great but difficult to place. Recent material doesn't seem to have been received particularly well and so they haven't come anywhere since their '07 performance (NIN and SP, that night). You couldn't possibly have them in the tent but at the same time them subbing doesn't feel right. I'll conclude that 2012 they'll headline the Other Stage at Glasto...
