Because they're riding the crest of a wave they would look to capitilaise on that by coming over here in the Summer and festival promoters will be looking to capitalise on it by booking them. They're a pretty hot band at the moment.

You also have to bear in mind that the positioning at American festivals don't always correlate with British festivals. Bands that are popular in America aren't always as popular over here, and vice versa. The Black Keys seem to be getting more popular but headlining an American festival doesn't make them a massive band in the UK. Just yet anyway.

I'm almost sure Soundgarden will be at Reading now. I don't think Sonisphere have them (pure guess, pure pure guess) and Download do NOT have exclusivity - they're somewhere else too, but where? Reading, the best fit for them. Hell, it's quite possible they'll headline. Remember, MCR subbed (and lowered) a LOT of fests last year, even in England, but still pulled our top spot. In focus group interviews, Benn claimed he'd love for SG to headline - don't give up hope yet!

EDIT; Soundgarden are REALLY unlikely for Soni... what with those Pearl Jam dates whack in the middle of it...

I'm not sure you can say that R&L is 'bigger', Download's capacity is much more (125,000 compared to 85,000 at Reading) and they do have some massive bands headlining (at the expense of the overall bill IMO). Sure bands tend to play lower down at R&L but I guess that's dowm to demographics, by that theory T is bigger than R&L. Also apparently Biffy are only subbing at the request of Metallica, I doubt they'd sub a smaller headliner, so with a popular album behind them I could see them being pushed up to a headliner spot (which FR like to do) for 2013.

Yeah they are a popular band atm so I can see festival promoters going for them, but to claim they are a pretty much certainty is way too far because 'pretty hot band' doesn't equate to Reading appearance. I've seen them in a quite few line up predictions, but haven't seen someone for example such as Foals in many who imo would have a better chance appearing than them. This Coachella appearance seems to have people just deciding on their positioning when nothing concrete points to them been there. It's just nonsense.

Even though they haven't played many festivals, I do think they'll come over to Europe but can't see it been at the end of August and can't see them coming over twice. I've heard a few rumours they are going to play Optimus Alive in July. If it's true I can see them planning their dates over that for a few week period and getting in Roskilde, T etc. They're is a chance they'll be at Reading but until I start seeing something in the form of rumours on efestivals, festival dates close to Reading etc I won't be getting my hopes up.
