I was thinking about The Gaslight Anthem - a fair number on here keep predicting them for 4th or 5th but how about 3rd? There's usually an American band who get placed higher than we expect them to (The National, Vampire Weekend, The Raconteurs, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and I have a feeling they'll get bigger with this new album so it could be a good slot for them.

Where has this theory that Bloc Party are loved by the a huge amount of the Reading audience come from? It's not like they get extremely large crowds for their shows when they've played. The only reason they've played as much as they have is because FR are so lazy with their bookings that they force Bloc Party onto the audience.

And I'd class a lazy booking as a easy, repeated, no thinking outside of the box act. I'm off to Optimus Alive in Portugal in July and by looking at the line ups from the past 3-4 years, no repeat bookings have screamed out to me on the line up. It's shocking that a festival such as Reading and Leeds has to continuously look at booking the same acts.

Erm, have you seen the videos of their 09 and 08 performances? Their crowd is damn huge and they sing every word. Even better is their 09 headline set on the Other Stage at Glasto, again, the crowd is massive. If people didn't like them then why would they get such huge crowds? Saying that people only see thwm because FR force them is just silly imo.

A lot of it is down to the idea of having a 'new' headliner, isn't it? In the vein of Arcade Fire, Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, The Darkness, MCR (almost new).

Franz Ferdinand and the Prodigy's popularity has already peaked. Perhaps Bloc Party's hasn't.

Bloc Party have easily drawn some of the biggest crowds in the years I have been, including in the old NME tent. I can only reiterate the above quote.

Yup, but like many other Reading goers we can't wait to see them back!

It creates a bit of a buzz + new album + new headliner (+ Foo's) = sells tickets to the young R&L crowd = win for Melvin.

To say they can't headline is horse shit (especially at R&L) & that its a lazy booking is a bit right, but also risky as say SOAD is a bigger band.

I'd say The Killers would be a lazy booking.
