Logically there is no way that an album like 'Boys Don't Cry' is a platinum selling UK album whereas other albums can't be. Trust me on that one as Boys Don't Cry was released for the American Market and had a similar track-listing to their first album which did crap in the UK (like most of their albums did until The Head on the Door).

World-Wide sales are relevant, always have been, maybe not to Reading and Leeds though, I agree with that point. However, out of their 13 studio albums, 5 compilations, couple of live CDs the vast majority of them have easily gone Gold and I'm pretty sure more than one has gone platinum.

As for your other point, Pulp have released 7 albums, 1 platinum (multiple times), 2 Gold and the other barely got in the charts. MCR have sold 4 million worldwide from 4 albums (similar ratio to The Cure). Couldn't tell you much more about The Strokes though.

Think, you said you were 20ish the other day so you don't remember how actually popular they were back in the day. Now 32 million albums world wide with 13 studio albums means each album would of sold less (much less with the other non studio albums) than 2.5 million copies world wide per album so you need to spread and with only 1 album only ever getting to UK number 1 it's entirely possible. Of cours there's the actual proof of them only ever being awarded 1 plantinum album.

however my ideal headliners (despite being a commited Download Festival attender are

Reunited Guns & Roses

Support - Sebastian Bach

Placebo

Support - Biffy Clyro

System Of A Down

Support - Slipknot

Personally if it was my ultimate festival lineup it wouldnt be this but it fits well to the L/R Scene

The Maccabees are down on the 'unknown stage' on the rumours page, if they were going to be on the main stage they would be put on the main stage list I would have thought, hence why I think they will be headlining the NME stage.

I can't actually remember what we've been told to have marked them as a TBC. It might have included stage info, or it might not have.

But if we don't have stage info and there's a reasonable basis for thinking they could play one of any number of stages then we'd put them on 'unknown stage' rather than a specific one - so you might be presuming too much with what you say.

I'm pretty sure it would be a first that Neil has decided to place a red herring. GnR just aren't logical, what makes you really think it would be them?

Not to everyone's taste but Kasabian make much more sense.

Also, on the lawsuit piece, what about Neil confirming Foo's? Is that a red herring too?

Sorry, just don't see it :)
