lol. I don't understand why they would have the cure headline. It is guaranteed that if a band such as Shakari was playing the same slot on the NME they would get an absolute huge number of people. Due to the amount of younger people at the festival.

Another idea maybe Kasabian are now playing because of a cock up by Benn. I think that gigwise was right when it said that foo's, green day and the prodigy were going to headline. But the fall out between R+L and the prodigy have made them change their plans. Therefore pay more for a indie headliner (Kasabian) and scrap Green day? Either that or i am very wrong.

Cant wait for the announcement now. I really do hope its Foo's, Kasabian and either SOAD/Linkin Park/Green day. Hoping a bit i think. lol

So how do people feel about the possibility now of three older bands headlining the festival (the newest being Kasabian who have been going 14/15 years). I know there was some talk earlier in the thread about it being the wrong direction for the festival to take (though not necessarily talking about these specific bands) in regards to it wanting to be seen as a vehicle for new music, so do people still think this is still the case and these three potential headliners could be detrimental to the fest in the long run, or are people happy that some or all will appeal to enough of the target demographic, with maybe a focus on new music throughout the undercard?

I don't think age is much important for headliners. I think what is important, is relevance. Foos & Kasabian are 2 bands who have been on the forefront of music in the UK in recent times, both having a massive impact. The Cure, though important and very influential... probably aren't so relevant. I don't know. They just don't strike me as a Reading/Leeds headliner.

But do you see a lot leaving saying who are C&S, Justice, Magnetic Man, or whoever they may have on FR. I'd say Lockup up The Cure day would be likely Less Than Jake maybe? Refused I think are a bit too old maybe.

The Cure

C&S

Justice/Magnetic Man

LTJ

FR

? Someone as big as they could get for it.

Both of those two options above will have people satisfied I think.

Hope At The Drive In get booked! Also, I agree sort of with Yellow_Fellow. The festival needs to be looking at modern acts and not ones like The Cure.

Older bands like RHCP, Guns N Roses, RATM aren't modern, but they're still more recent than The Cure who are a step too far imo, they're not going to be well known/of any interest to a large chunk of the festival goers.

Well that's a different point isn't it? You just said Reading needs to focus on modern line-ups, which is a very strange statement, as that would rule out at least five of the last nine headliners.

Pulp, Muse playing the older records, Guns And Roses, Blink and Radiohead. That's just out of the headliners. You couldn't book a whole festival on modern lineups.

With regards to sales, Westlife are the most successful UK band of the last decade. Why don't they headline then?
