Well Guns N' Roses co headlined with Prodigy in 2002.

Also, The Cure played a 90 minute set at The O2 in 2009. They're not as entirely against it as everyone is making out. I don't think that there's any chance that they will co headline with anyone, but I think it's perfectly possible that they'll play an hour and a half slot.

Out of interest, do any Reading historians know what the setup was for The Strokes and Pulp in 2002? Were they co headliners that year as well? The poster has them both on the Friday in the same font size, but with Jane's Addiction as the smaller subliner underneath, whereas Foo Fighters have Muse in a smaller font, and no logo for Ash or Sum 41. The idea of Pulp headlining in 2000, but sublining in 2002 is a strange one.

We've had the same argument here about Smashing Pumpkins/NIN - regardless of how long each played they weren't co-headliners.

Also there's nothing to say that The Cure can't play for two hours just because Foos are likely to, FR could easily give two bands a longer slot. It'll just depend how desperate they are to get the Cure or whether they think giving them a longer slot might have a detrimental effect.

The Strokes & Pulp did co-headline in 2002 as they both had 75min sets each, back in 2000 Pulp & Beck co-headlined as they both had around 90mins each but Beck was nice enough to let Pulp play last at both sites, The Prodigy at Reading in 2002 actually had a shorter set than The Offspring from what I can remember - Prodigy only had 65mins whereas The Offspring had 75mins

Well I wouldn't want to argue with someone who was actually there :P

There's an interview here though where Smith talks about a 90-100min set as opposed to the standard two and a half hours. (from 1min30secs in)

They may have overrun, but I suppose the point still stands that he's not entirely against the idea! :)
