Just had a crazy thought, and I don't know if R/L are allowed to share headliners with IOW.

...how about Springsteen? Would be a bit different to the usual type of headliners but he would put on an immense show.

Plus it would pretty much guarantee an appearence from Gaslight! :D

The way I see it, FF, Kasabian and Killers/Bloc Party would not come close to a description of the ultimate headliners. But substitute a real wild card like Neil Young/Depeche Mode/The Cure for K/BP then I'd buy the hype. Hope spings eternal.

as it happens I know that Neil Young has knocked back at least one UK festie offer this year too.

But that one is harder to judge for why. It's less likely to be because of another offer than is the case with The Cure.

I know there is some sort of "American Idiot Musical Tour", but I hope hope hope they do a UK arena tour too.

All the hype MB seems to have put on this years line up makes me think GreenDay could be the 3rd headliner, I honestly can't think of another band that could realistically play that would top GreenDay.

Any festivals can share any act they want to, if they want to.

But the likes of R/L tries it's hardest to get exclusive headliners, so it's very unlikely that it would have the same acts as IoW as its headliners, and whether that might be possible would depend on what basis IoW has booked its headliners. It probably wants them as exclusive too, but it's probably got less clout with which to achieve that - and it's certainly been the case before that other fests have had the same acts.

But Springsteen? And people have been complaining that The Cure would be a bore.:lol:

Still, you'd get some songs you recognised - even tho it wouldn't be that Kiss song, but Springsteen's rip-off, etc, etc, etc.:lol::lol:

All the hype MB seems to have put on this years line up ....

... is exactly the same hype he puts on every year's line-up.

As I say ever year, he's not going to be making a statement tyhat the headliners he's got are shit, or even that they're slightly less good than last year.

Every year he'll say they're the best, because anything less would lessen people's interest.

It's as informative as saying you'll always see fish swimming in water. No shit, sherlock!

I said it a few pages back, but when he said this year will have the 'ultimate' headliners, would this be the ultimate headliners for the festivals current market and demographic? Because Foo's and Kasabian are just that imo. So will the 3rd possibly fit in with that?

No, this would be the ultimate headliners as a publicity statement without anything meaningful behind the words.

Just check the similarly-worded statements from Melvin every year.

That's not me calling Melvin a liar. He's very good at his job - but a job that includes creating a publicity buzz around the festivals he runs for his job. He gets suitable bands as headliners, very suitable bands for his festival (even if the crowd often don't know it at the time). They might even prove to all be fanastic some years (tho it doesn't need me to tell it fails sometimes too).

But those words are marketing, a publicity statement. They make you think of the bands you'd like to see, while everyone else might think of a different set of bands. They create an attraction in your head towards something that you've yet to know the substance of, in the hope that yoiu'll follow thru on the attraction even if the substance leaves you a little disappointed (and some WILL be disappointed: you can't please all the people all of the time).

Got it? Marketing. Meaningless.

I'm really happy with Foo's and Kasabian. Foo's were amazing at MK last year and always put on a show. Kasabian looked really good at their O2 arena NYE gig so i'm really looking forward to seeing them. The only issue is, is The Cure who i'm not a massive fan of. I know people of my age that go to the festival are going to similarly feel the same, and some won't have even heard of them, i've been speaking to some people about it at school and they say "who are The Cure?" so this is pretty similar to Arcade Fire. If they are up against Chase and Status the crowd will be tiny, and i know for fact if they are up against anyone from C&S to Enter Shikari i will be in the tent (if i can get in), if they had someone like Linkin Park however i think the story would be different.
