I'm more excited than a fat kid in a sweet shop waiting for the announcement and tickets to go back on sale! Is there any indication of dates? I know it's normally the last Monday in March but I seem to remember hearing that it may be the 12th although I can't remember where.

On the subject of balloons, at the festival last year I saw a guy carrying a load of balloons, obviously selling them. Then he tripped up, let go of all of the balloons and they all went flying off into the sky. He didn't seem too happy, in fact he swore very loudly and ran off, obviously lost a lot of money that day.

I can personally see R&L being the festival to be at this year, especially when you take a look round at the other festivals (this is my opinion obviously),

Download headliners-Prodigy, Metallica, Black Sabbath

IOW-Tom Petty, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen

Sonisphere UK-Queen, Faith No More and ????

Bestival - New order

R&L - Foo Fighters, Kasabian & ????

With Neils info that Sonisphere were struggling with their third headliner, maybe R&L have pulled some rabbits out the bag this year and it could blow a few of the others out the water, especially if there is a kick ass undercard to!

I think it's more that there just aren't enough metal headliners out there, hence they've had to repeat Metallica in a stupidly short period of time.

Yup.

Download struggled to make it's line-up different year on year whe there was just Download. The addition of Soni has made that task even more difficult for both of them.

I reckon it can pretty much be taken as a given that with the bigger bands they'll almost be swapping line-ups every year (aside from bands take a year out of fests).

In the days of the one-day Monsters of Rock they couldn't find enough acts to keep it interesting. With two multi-day fests covering much the same genre and acts there's a more than decent chance that neither will have too much of a long life I reckon.

I'm surprised that Rammstein have never headlined Download, thought this year might well be that year. There are a few bands who will make the step up to headline sooner or later (B4MV, A7X, MachineHead etc...)

Could Queen, FNM, Evanescence be the Soni UK Headliners? Massive risk on Evanescence and Queen (especially without Freddie Mercury)...

Still hoping for Green Day as the 3rd headliner for R&L

Edit - Confirmed by @OfficialR&L - Announcement March 12th at 7.15pm, it's going to be VERY special....!

If it is Foo's, Kasabian and Green Day .. Who do you think is likely to get the biggest crowd?

It'll be a tough one .. I'd say Green Day because they haven't toured much recently where as the other 2 have, but Foo's are probably the biggest band in the world right now (backed up by their 5 grammys last week), and Kasabian are idolised by the younger ones in the modern R&L goers.

Tough one.
