thetime
I love all these bands popping up who have previously headlined Reading, and now could barely headline NME. Reading really need to learn from mistakes and stop jumping the gun on their headliners *coughMCRcough* as for Razorlight... 4th main? NME? BTK1609
Some of these suggestions to play NME or lower down the main who have previously headlined makes me even more pleased that we will likley have the Foos, Kasabian and either Green Day or The Cure headlining this year. Saying that I would like to see Franz play but Razorlight can fook right off!
Vieuphoria
I'm of the opinion that a band need to have at least some extended popularity before they headliner. I find it lazy booking otherwise.

Vieuphoria
But the number of bands that have both a) extended popularity and b ) current popularity (like the bands I mentioned) is very small. If we were to have a festival with just only extended popularity bands who are currently popular headlining you'd run out of headliners quite quickly. I think there's room for one 'of-the-moment' band to headline every year, in exchange for 'not-remotely-of-the-moment' headliners like Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Pearl Jam, etc.

harderfaster
You say that though but it does seem that Reading/Leeds is the only major festival that manages to book these kinds of bands as headliners. By doing so, the lineup just looks weak, and in retrospect looks just dire. I can't help but think about when Download had Lostprophets booked as headliners. In retrospect that was weak, but at the time it did make sense. They were huge at the time, and had an extended popularity of a few albums.... now they are small. That booking is fine. But when a band with a single album come out and headline the festival and can barely fill the slot (The Darkness) it's just sad.
LibertinesFanBoy
Radiohead subbing? Get real. Clearly a fake.
LibertinesFanBoy
LOL, also love how out of place Mumford and sons are on that lineup. Mumford and Sons into lamb of god would be very strange. Plus theyd be higher than that anyway. Must say though, I like the look of Friday and Sundays NME stage

iPaulo xD
Another point - Rival Sons played at the bottom of the 5th stage at Sonisphere last year.. Bumping them to 3rd main on R&L HAHA LOL

VCK
Whenever Glasto have done it though they've made peoples career... Arctic Monkeys Kings of Leon Jay-Z Reading tend to balls up peoples careers... or are a total disaster of a headlier The Darkness Razorlight Franz Ferdinand My Chemical Romance the only one Reading got right was Arcade Fire
Vieuphoria
I thought MCR proved to the doubters that they were capable of pulling a headline slot off. I wasn't there but I've heard nothing but praise for their set last year. Franz silenced a few doubters in 2006 as well but they've done nothing of note since. Arctics were quite poor at Glasto from what I've heard, but Muse are another band who have been made by their Glasto headline set.
2rare2die
In regards to MCR, the show they put on seemed fine. But they didn't prove themselves to be headliners, not in any way, shape or form. They could have put on just as good of a show as a sub. They had a really small crowd too. Really small. Muse are a fantastic example. How I forgot them I do not know.
