I'm not sure about Pearl Jam, they are still funny about festivals ever since that crush and FR had to promise them safety measures to get them.

Doubt R&L would try to get them again, if they want to do Soni they would have to do all of the euro dates as they like pimp their big name at all of their fests and to be honest I don't think they want to be associated with metal (Soni & Download are seen as metal despite being rock) fests.

I reckon Reading might try and pull out 3 amazing headliners next year after realizing that headliners do actually make the tickets shift quicker. Think they'll want to prove they are still a big fest after pretty much universally getting slagged off for pulling out the worst big festival lineup in the UK for its demographic.

They would be if they had an element of exclusivity to them. Muse have done an arena tour recently, played outdoor/stadium gigs and headlined Glasto, and The Strokes played I.O.W last year and look to be touring UK later this year, so most people will have already seen both.

But remember, along with the strokes and muse, is a whole array of music. Whether you like the other bands or not you are paying (ok it's £200 now but...) to see a load of bands. At a festival you can make your choice of music to see and have the typical festival experience which is worth a lot of the money anyway.

Lots of people seem to have foo fighters and green day playing. Have these ever both headlined a festival before. I would consider them the 2 biggest mainstream american rock bands of the last 10 years. As they are both pretty sure things in terms of selling tickets, I imagine both would be very expensive to book. I would be amazed if both were at the festival. Looking at previous line ups, theres nothing to suggest to me that 2 bands like these would be booked.

I think it's unlikely as Neil keeps alluding to something about Green Day and I wouldn't think they will want to play a festival again until they have a new album out but in 2003 there was Blur, Metallica & Linkin Park both Linkin Park & Metallica have similar fanbases but the differences between the two are similar enough to Green Day & Foos and both Blur & Metallica would of been pricey bookings and I don't think Foos would be that pricey as they want to play R&L as it's their fave festival.

Linkin Park werent really an established headliner in 2003. I will give you metallica and blur but there is less crossover between these 2 than foo fighters and green day who are both pretty mainstream us rock. Also 2003 to 2012 is nearly a 10 year gap, I would say the trend is for headliners to be smaller not bigger.

It will also be 20 years since Nirvana headlined which is why I can see Foos playing, also as they are playing a lot of festivals this year, there's a good chance that Reading would be able to get them as an 'exclusive' which the festival seems to crave
