wonder as its their final UK festivals of the summer if they will let BBC broadcast any of their set on the telly on the Saturday at Reading seeing as how they obviously didn't let BBC show any of their set at TITP as nothing was on BBC 3, Red button or in the BBC 2 highlights programme & at Glasto BBC weren't televising anything from the Park Stage, am guessing Sky Arts weren't allowed/didn't show any of their IOW set??

Being a kid growing up in the 90s Britpop scene, it was much easier for me to be into the more accessible music of Oasis. Then shortly after I started respecting Blur more due to them experimenting and changing their sound. It's only been recently now I'm older that I've understood Pulp - god they're good. One thing I don't get though, is nobody seems to mention the song Sunrise. I've not seem them live yet, but when that song comes on in my car, I absolutely ramp up the volume every time - I literally cannot imagine a better atmospheric live song (youtube vids I've seen show it to be awesome with Jarvis going mental). Is it likely that they'll play this?

Isn't that the reason it was a "secret slot" at Glastonbury, & not a full blown, we're on the poster headlining the Other or somewhere on the Pyramid? Perhaps bit of practice before the headlining sets yet to come (ok I heard it wasn't a hour+ set)? Plus that stupid exclusive R+L headliner thingy.

I'm ready for some abuse for this but I've grown up after Pulp & only realised they were potentially this popular until this summer, & I am still pretty sure there is a bit of bias on the efest forums for them.

I honestly think Pulp as a headliner at R+L has attracted as many people as MCR of the demographic I have seen over the past 2 years at Reading.

Glasto may well not have wanted them as headliners. They wanted to play Glasto as it means so much to them so they played a lesser slot which as far as i've heard was one of the most talked about sets this year and certainly bigger than Radiohead's.

I'm sure they will be brilliant, but like Arcade Fire, I can't imagine that many people going to see them, so not that many people. I'm not slagging them off, I just can't see them having the crowds they would attract at Glasto. But then again... the alternatives aren't great (unlike Glasto!)

I think it was a case of playing Glasto properly for little money or playing R&L and getting a wedge to persuade them not to be advertised at Glasto and playing a secret set instead.

It's the setlist that makes it seem like it's a bit of a cash grab for me, although I'd imagine at their own Brixton gigs they'll do more from This Is Hardcore/We Love Life and maybe some rarer stuff.

Although to be fair, it's Pulp and I love them so I couldn't really care why they're doing it.

Possibly, but they've also been around long enough to appeal to the late-twenties and thirty-somethings and I think that's where most of their fans will come from, which is the complete opposite to The Midnight Beast.
