The Download 2011 Lineup Controversy

Basically i've been watching people bitch over and over at the lineup for download 2011 and decided to sign up and point a few things out.

To those who are constantly bitching about the lineup is shit, that andy copping is re-using bands that have played there before...listen to yourselves!! there are only so many big named bands out there that they're bound to be used more than once...some bands may simply not want to play or tour during the year, some are concentrating on new material, some even taking some time out so not everyone is going to get what they want. To say that the lineup is "Shit" is simply a matter of personal opinion, to be honest with you i've seen a lot of bands and i favour this to the sonisphere lineup...bar the fact i'd love to see slipknot play at download this year i couldn't really care much else because they'll play next year or even ozzfest. Yes metallica would have been nice to see again but once again, they've played at download before..which is the basis to your arguement in the first place!!

Some years the lineups have been weak but i'm pretty happy with this one, it's got the strong points from hellfest which has now deterred me from attending hellfest now.

To those who are slagging off this year's lineup to the ground, until you have the money, the contacts and the brain capacity to pull off a festival for that many people for them to continuously return year after year then you don't have much place to criticize AC.

im not overly happy with the lineup! if i wasnt so eager to see System i would have waited and not bothered

but as i have booked a ticket i will just use it as a band scouting festival... will see alot of bands i havent seen.

looking foward to Clutch the most out of the bands i have yet to see

At the end of the day Mr Copping brings a lot of this 'bitching' upon himself by making promises that he can't keep, putting out misleading information, and by constantly over exaggerating the quality of the bands he has booked. And if, as a paying customer, i feel the bands booked don't live up to the hype i've been fed by said festival organiser, then i consider it not only my right, but my duty to bitch.

Newflash my simple minded friend not everything costs money, I am opinionated on many things, but there's having an opinion then there's bitching… and no if everything was thought about like that then it wouldn't just be the rich people at all, not everything costs money dumbsh*t.

B*tching Example - Fat football fan bitching about their striker not scoring….well unless there's some hidden talent under those rolls then quit f**king moaning about it, you can't do any better. If you happen to be extremely talented then by all means moan away.

Therefore people saying the lineup is sh*t, well no I strongly disagree, you may not like some of the bands but how can something so sh*t have made such names for themselves. I've seen a number of psots complaining about having Def Leppard as a headliner, I'm pretty happy they are, they're not going to be around that much longer so any chance I do get to see them I appreciate. To be around since 1977 and still going and making money…that’s pretty impressive in my book.

My point is all these people slagging off AC are just showing how much of a spoilt little brat they are who doesn't get what they want, perhaps appreciate that people take the time to put these sort of things on.

Spengs & pryce - I've never said having an opinion is a bad thing, there's bands on there that I don't like and won't go to see but I don't constantly go on about it and slag it down to the ground like some do.

So you're meaning to tell me this forum is solely set up to bitch about download?? Perhaps they should put that in the description. It was my understanding that this forum was to DISCUSS bands, wishlists, predictions etc… not to bitch about every announcement that pops up. Also I'd just like to make it clear that I am not complaining, I'm simply stating a fact.

Having an opinion and bitching, while sharing a similar underlying principal, is not the same. Bitching generally implies that you're being a little bitch… which for those that are attempting to defend themselves to my comments are quite frankly proving my earlier point.

If you read the description under the topic name you'll see "My thoughts" which implies my opinion on the matter, which you seem to be justifying that everyone is entitled to, and I haven't once said that they aren't. You are now trying to "bitch" about me having an opinion… you're a walking contradiction my friend.

jesus christ - if u dont like people complaining about this years lineup then dont join up to a forum and start up an account - not difficult. If you wana be another sheep and get ur nose brown with Mr Copping just start up a twitter account and be one of the other numptys to stroke his ego just in the hope you may get a Re-Tweet off him. People dont just bitch on here, when theres a good announcement Copping often gets praised on these forums, take the rough with the smooth, people have every right to complain if there is shite announcements. Fact is the lineup this year as a whole is pretty shit...The Darkness are a joke, Def Leppard headlined in 09, Linkin Park headlined in 07 and BFMV and A7x have constantly played festivals these last few years.........its hardly an inspiring lineup. SOAD and Rob Zombie are the only major coups this year

Andy Copping is to festivals, what Peter Molineux is to video games. He talks a big game and makes loads of promises that don't end up being kept and you end up with a slight variation on previous offerings

That's why people are complaining.

If my tickets werent free I'd only go to Sonisphere this year, I can't justify that ammount of money for a load of bands I've seen (at Download) before, even if one of them is SOAD.

You seem to have forgotten the fact that some of the people 'bitching' are PAYING customers, some of which bought their tickets presale with the good faith that the line-up would be as strong as previous years and that promises made would be adhered to. If they find this not to be the case then surely you can expect them to want to vent their frustrations, and what better place to do it than in a forum full of like-minded people. If you don't like the threads in which people are bitching then my advice to you would be to just ignore them. In my own personal opinion the line-up isn't as strong as it could have been, but i shall go knowing that i shall still have a good weekend despite this, and hope that some bands suprise me or that some of the bands that i haven't heard much of can win me over

What AC has said about the line up has contributed more to the 'bitching' than the actual bands, same with Melvin Benn and Reading & Leeds. If you're going to make claims about your festival then you'd better back them up and not go back on what you've said or you're going to get called out on it. Best to keep your mouth shut until you're confident that you aren't being hypocritical or can follow through on promises.

If Copping had said nothing then few people would be complaining.

It's a poor line up by most peoples standards and booking The Darkness to sub tells you everying you need to know about his decision making this year. All credit to Andy last year, he really pulled off the best headliners I have seen at a festival for some time.

Whist I agree with some of your points Tang, I must say that calling people "bitches" is somewhat hypocritical when your message is to stop chatting shit about something you clearly feel quite strongly about.

I honestly feel the Efest DL forum is quite balanced in its comments, and everyone here respects other people's opinions (for the most part anyway) and especially compared to the eeedjots that frequent the Official DL forums and Facebook.

For me personally, I am very happy with the lineup. I'm a bit perplexed by the addition of Def Leppard but no more so than I was with Sonisphere's addition of Metallica as headliner (twice in total 3 year history is baffling for me, but hey ho).

Yes people can go a tad overboard in their comments sometimes, but you do not have to read them. Much like they do not have to go to the festival, or see that band they really wished wasn't playing. Life is about choices and opinions and if they were all the same, the world would be a lot less interesting.

r0w… you should really take the time to actually read my posts rather than a few lines and then blurt out a load of nonsense, I stated on earlier posts that I was not a fan of every band on the lineup but I'm not going to sit at my computer and b*tch about it…you don't like the lineup..don't go, whinging is going to get you nowhere..however I don't see how you're argument backs up your point. You're complaining about bands being re-used…well believe it or not bands bring out new material, you don't just buy a band's album and then ignore every following album after that purely because you've heard them before, that's just idiotic.. In fact it's so idiotic I feel dumber now that I've read you're post. MOR/Download has been going for decades now, and guess what!! You ready for this?? Big bands don't come around every year storming the world and knocking previous years bands off the top spot. Metallica have been going for years..they've played download before, they've played sonisphere before…people still want to see them. Just because a band plays a festival once doesn't mean they shouldn't play again. And as I said before a lot of bands may be busy working on other stuff, or not prepared to tour or play festivals every year…in sonisphere's case they sign their bands and 9/10 times they enforce an exclusive clause so that band can't play at other festivals around that period of time…sonisphere have megadeath and motorhead…I saw them last year at DL and they were shockingly poor yet 90% of the people in that crowd were havin a ball, I didn't cry about it.

Mrtourette - I don't deny AC has overhyped some announcements…everyone does it. But to be fair paying £180 to see the likes of Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Down, Disturbed, Def Leppard, SOAD, Korn, Buckcherry etc. is a pretty good deal plus the lineup isn't even complete yet, there are still about 4 main stage slots left and a number of 2nd stage ones. Yet AC never promised any certain band…at no point did he say "I'm signing slipknot" or "I'm signing opeth".

Bottom line, you're all complaining that you don't like me expressing my opinion on the fact you've been bitching about the lineup, that you're entitled to do so…and "everyone is entitled to their own opinion" even though it's mainly bitching…guess what, I'm very entitled to my opinion too…you don't like it I'd suggest you take your own advice and ignore it.

Thanks B, to be honest I'm not overly fussed what people think of the lineup, me and my mates are looking forward to it..finally got all our flights and hotels booked for before and after the festival. I only posted this purely because each time someone moaned about the lineup being terrible and that every band on there was disappointing nobody really challenged them…it was a perfect opportunity to get people's backs up…I love a good argument
