Night Pitching

Hi all, I've heard Thursday gets pretty busy so was thinking of turning up the Wednesday night to pitch up the tent!

Is there much lighting during the dark hours to put your tent up?

It's not "dark dark" if you know what I mean. If you know how your tent goes up it'll be fine, there's plenty of ambient light.

We arrived in the middle of the night in 2009, thanks to a coach driver who 'knew a shortcut', and if it wasn't for our head torches we would have been sleeping under the stars!

In 09 we were putting our tent up at about midnight Wed/Thurs & it wasn't too bad all,it's not pitch black!

I'm with the others - use a head torch - but do practice putting up your tent first; some of the big ones are really complicated.

I find a gas lantern to be invaluable for this kind of thing. It throws out loads of light, and it's amazing how much easier it is doing things when you can see everything clearly.

I use this one, cost me £18:

Which is quite compact when you detach the gas can from the bottom.
