I agree, you only have to see the number of new threads being started here on Discussions and the pages of replies. Numbers are through the roof...esp over the last 12months.

the decrease in interest of the discussions forum is probably due to the fact that the festival season is hotting up and more posts are being directed to those forums.

After all, that's why most people are on here.

To be fair this place HAS changed. I've posted for years but not massively often, I don't start many threads. I kind of considered trying to start more just to liven it up a bit, but who would bite?

The T in the park forum bollocks from a while back was a classic example. I guess the football thread is a little less filled with self absorbed crap than it has been so that's a plus. I just don't think there are as many regular posters in discussion as there used to be.

i don't get why neil goes on the defensive when people say that the forums are dead.

didn't you say that they were more hassle than it was worth to you not even a year ago? plus, if social network sites are a fad, surely forums have their lifespan? facebook has certainly overtaken for me when it comes to talking football with people i used to on here etc.

eFestivals Discussions definatly lost a lot of useage with the rise of facebook, Id say the festivals individual forums have taken a hit but it isn't too bad, its been steady for a while, as in I haven't really noticed it going up and down.

I don't use facebook, but do have twitter, but Im definatly a heavy user on this site, and im glad I see some friendly usernames on here! But I don't feel the need to + and - anyone however

It's a statement of fact. If some people here find the content here boring, then two questions need to be asked of themselves...

1. do they have nothing to contribute themselves toi make it all they would like it to be?

2. if they find it boring, why do they continue to use here?

Posts saying that it's boring here says more about the person posting those words than it does about these forums.

what amuses me the most is that i didnt complain about receiving -'s, i've just accepted that there are some people who are generally negative, i was trying to discuss the system itself being out of place on this website. Which no one seems to have actually discussed, it just became a Nightcrawler-slam

i just think it's odd that a forum meant for festival and general discussion, somewhere i thought should be full of fairly open minded people, has a feature designed to put others down or boost their ego....

and when i mention that i find the rating system a strange and childish thing to have on an adult forum, as opposed to bebo or myspace, i have a load of people personally insult me?

when i said the website has changed, i dont mean that it's dead, it's clearly not as used as it used to be but it's not a stagnant forum by any means. What i mean is that there used to be a sense of niceness about here, if you post something such as the birth of your child or getting gig tickets to something sold out, people would be happy for you. Where as now there is a very cynical feeling to the place, the earlier replies of "you think you're wacky and cool" and "you're a cock" display this marvelously.

What baffles me is that these few people seem to all agree the fact that i only talk about having sex with my girlfriend, which to my knowledge i never have. Maybe a year ago when we first got together and i was all excited about being in a relationship for the first time in 2 years, but is such a bad thing to be happy about? We used to have a Singles Thread where all ANYONE did was talk about there love and sex lives??

As well as this strange imaginary reason to - everything i say is that i "only talk about taking drugs", which is clearly an idiotic thing to say. I've just looked through the last 200 posts of mine and the only time i mention drugs is a hunter s thompson birthday party....

now am i foolish in thinking that people using a festival forum, would be open minded enough to accept someone might take drugs? I've never posted saying everyone should take drugs, i don't update people on the drug culture of manchester, i mention it in passing. Yet there are people so closed minded that the one mention of it then creates a "YOU'RE A DRUG USER AND ARE TO BE DISLIKED" mentality amongst others

maybe it's because i'm american, or maybe the surviving cancer, but i just assume it's normal to have a positive outlook and to be generally accepting and nice of others. It's what we're all here for right? Not this website, but life, to seek happiness. So why are people just so god damn cynical??

alas, this post will probably lead to more people telling me how much of a dick i am. I know i could just ignore everything that has been said, but the point of this website is to discuss, and i am generally interested in WHY people feel the need to act so hostile.

I'm secure and happy enough in my real non-internet life to not be brought down by mean little people. I've had to deal with them my entire life and i shan't let ones who only exist on a website be the start of my downfall

No offense nightcrawler but my take on it is that it isn't particularly the content of your post more the fact alot of your posts are self indulgent. I can't look through the threads at the moment as i'm on my mobile so I can't give you references but from memory I do think you've started a few threads basically just about you which isn't really going to lead to a discussion is it? Now in saying this i'm not saying it's just you, there's a few who at times seem to only post about themselves (den we'll let away with it simply because he's den). I feel the forum is alot less cliquey than it was when I first started posting in 07, whether this is a good or bad thing isn't for me to say.

As for talking about the feeling of the forum changing, I disagree. Just ask all the people who've been given advice when they've been having a hard time or the people who've been helped get tickets for festivals through the help of other forum members. The forums have changed but that's life, nothing stays the same forever. You either have to move with the times or decide that maybe it's not for me anymore.
