it's just angels and airwaves with a hint of boxcar racer for me. tom needs to sit the f**k down and let mark and travis do the majority of the influencing.

i just don't see why it can't be fun, mature and good. i mean feeling this was hardly dick and fart jokes, but it was just a great upbeat blink 182 song. same with always, down, go etc. i'm not buying this 'new sound' bollocks. it's just very average and it's not blink 182.

they're in serious danger of shitting all over the legacy for me if the album sounds like this as a whole which i'm expecting it to.

I always thought (or liked to believe) the change of heart was over Barker's plane crash and not just a quick cash in.

I really don't think a comeback album should be about taking the band in a new direction, it should be focusing 1st and foremost on what made the band great expand on that which was fun even if it's just to ease them back and stretch the palette on the next. It's like if Blur released a new album I'd expect it to be britpop and be disappointed if it was carrying on the sound of Think Tank.

Do you really think if Blur came back they would release another Parklife? It would be another change in direction which they have pretty much done throughout their career.

Blink are a different band than when they came out with albums like Dude ranch and Enema of the state. I think if they went back their it would sound forced.

won't respond to every single thing jaybles, but i've listened again and the verse is growing on me.

but i stand by that it is very average. not even talking about styles, but you've got to admit that it is very weak compared to other first singles from previous albums? even more so that it's the big comeback?

and regards money, if ava had been a much bigger success, do you think tom would be coming back after what was said? i think money is playing a big part.

finally, regards the 3 songs you posted, i realise there were dark moments. two of the songs you posted i'd have been happy not on the album (though lost without you grew on me after my breakup). always is pretty upbeat for me. not writing it off yet, i'll be hunting for torrents as quick as the next guy, but i'm just saying that if tom has as much involvement and the style/quality is similar, i'll be disappointed.

regards the different styles fusing, this is something that worries me. as already demonstrated, tom is bringing in some ava style to the table. and i'm not a huge fan of what travis has been up to in the past few years so i just worry what this will mean for the album.

as i say, i would rather they all stuck to their side projects. but definitely going to give the album a chance.

Those differences were already in place during the last album though. I really don't think its going to be a massive departure from their last album. And if you liked that maybe you will enjoy their new stuff too
