hashcity
Me and a friend were thinking about putting a coolbox full of cold beer in one of the lockups and then retrieving beers from it when we're bimbling around away from our tent. That way we could go all day without having to return to our tent to restock. Does that sound practical? Which lockup would be best to use for this (typically we'll hang around the west holts stage and be camped in the Dance Field). Looking at the maps the lockups are all in inconvenient locations for this plan.
jeffie
It's ingenious, but I'm not sure that they would be very happy....
redmosquito
I think its a really good idea.. Can't see why it would be a problem
ukslim
Drop a donation in the can every time you collect, and I'm sure they'd be fine. You could tip them a can now and again too. You might get bored of the paperwork -- there's a form to fill in each time you drop off / pick up.
StoneCircle
There is usually a lock up opposite Holts camping next to the cash points there, this should be a good one for you to use. This is the walkway you would take to go to Other Stage from West Holts. It is not on the map for 2011 though, not sure which I will use if this is no longer there. I always leave a spare pair of wellies at a lock up just in case of flash floods!

Roo42
lol as 'lock-up' crew with a few years experience, though just returning from a few year gap being a punter, this sort of thing is quite common, though surprisingly not as common as you'd expect! There is paperwork each time you remove a can - the ticket will say for example, 48cans, so each time you take a beer you will be expected to do new paperwork. There is also the logistics of queueing up when busy! If you don;t mind this, after all it will save a walk back to your tent etc and the lock ups are surprisingly cool, so your beer won;t get to the heat it would in a tent or your car. Donations are most graciously accepted, and will ensure your cans don;t get dropped or shook up between the case and your hand J/K You are not supposed to encourage the volunteers in these lock-ups to drink whilst on duty! But they may be more than happy to have a can donated for when they finish their shift. But donations ideally should be in the form of hard-cash, so the charity responsible for the particular lock-up will benefit. Various different charities run the lock-ups, though they are centrally coordinated. Off the top of my head, these are - Welsh CND - Lockup with the big CND symbol & Dragon opposite the main stage (and a few others I think) Birmingham FoE - number of lock-ups, some by pedestrian gates & in camping fields. Brighton Peace Centre - Lock-up in M-market area & by above mention cashpoints opposite the toilets between west-holts & other stage Yorkshire CND - (not 100% sure if they still doing it)Used to run the lock-up near the glade IoW CND - Lock-up by pedestrian gate C (hill of death - West campervan fields) Not sure how many in total there are or if all the above or more than the above are involved in the lock-ups, but last time I worked for them there was at least 14 scattered across the map, varying in size from portacabin size to reasonably sized marquees. Please do consider that the queues for these can get quite large as the main stages finish in the evening, and at leaving time. Please collect your belongings by Monday Morning - most will be closing at somepoint on the monday before midday, any items left will be transferred to the welsh lock-up opposite pyramid for sorting before then going to the lost property. Also, the festival do advertise that soap & toilet rolls are available free from the lock-ups. Whilst this is true, they do not always have the supplies delivered by the opening of the festival and they are known to run-out of these. Donations for this free stuff are also greatfully accepeted! Hope that helps people out a bit!
welsho26
Sounds handy. Not wanting to doubt you, but it can't of been every lockup, not unless you walked miles and miles and drank 10 crates of beer Where were the lockups you used? The official map doesn't seem to have the convenient ones on it I wonder if I can pay the sherpas to keep my lockup cache(s) restocked for me?
