Help me to understand how big the site is.....

We arrived on the Wednesday afternoon in 2007 by coach so went in at Gate A. We camped quite near the farm and Pyramid. It was great for the Pyramid but an absolute trek to the nightime areas of Shangri La etc where we spend a lot of time. As it was a muddy year it took us over an hour in the evening to get over there and was a pain in the arse to be honest. You should still be able to get a space in Dairy or around there so I would defo consider which areas you think you will use most as sometimes it's worth more of a trek on arrival.

It's just me and my boyfriend going so we're both in the same boat, we don't really know where to camp.

We will most likely be around the whole site, we will be going between stages during the day then will most likely be in shangri-la and the late night areas at night time

Clare, i read a couple of years ago that the festival site is roughly the same size as the city of Bath, if you have never been to Bath have a look on Google earth.

To get an idea of the size when you are there then it pays to walk up past the stone circle and to the top of the hill, don't turn around until you can touch the perimeter fence then marvel and take in the view from there to get an idea of the size of the place, its a great way to spend an hour or two chatting and 'relaxing', however the walk back down has been tricky in past years and seemed to take two days to get back to HQ!

As a Bathonion I can confirm that the population of the festival is twice that of Bath (177,000 v. 84,000)

Clare, yes it's huge when compared to other festivals, but take your time to bimble around & you'll get used to it, rushing seems to take far too long.

The BBC dimensions page is good for comparison, but that's just the fence perimeter, The car parks are virtually the same size again, split to the West & East!

I suggest you look at this excellent map in Google Earth:

Wear stout shoes (this is a working farm with dirt/stone tracks.) You can wear almost anything clothes wise but the likes of flip-flops don't really work.

Above all else, remember one important thing - that you're going to have the best time ever!
