Hey,

this is the first time that i have been to glastonbury, although i have been to leeds fest the past 2 summers!

I just wondered if anyone could answer some questions i have:

What is the best phone network to buy a simcard on for signal etc? someone told me orange is quite good..

What is the best thing to take to cook food on?

and if anyone has any other tips etc, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My housemate tells me he has never had a problem with Orange at Glastonbury & reccomended I use my old PAYG Orange sim card at the fest. I couldn't be bothered but was absolutely fine using my O2 phone there (even better than at Reading festival). Orange had a repeater station there to boost signal but it seems this year they will not be returning with their huge charging tent so it is unclear what reception may now be like.

Take a small camping stove if they are allowed.

I posted this a week or so ago, really good read & with plenty of pictures... /index.php?showtopic=159776">Tort's FAQ

This forum has a smorgasbord of information, tips, cheats, everything!!

I recommend reading through.

You could be inspired or overwhelmed, so the best thing is be individual in your choices.

The best and quite amusing tip I've come across is get all the clothes you want to take on one pile and your money on another pile. Halve the clothes and double the money!! It's true though!

As for your specifics, for a sim I'd say Orange too as they have a good presence there.

For food and cooking equipment, if you're driving then do it! Either a briefcase gas stove and cannisters or disposable BBQ's. If on the other hand you're doing public transport, like me, I end up buying all mine. From the everyday, each camping area has its nearby breakfast marquee (accompnied by chinese food on the other side) to the weird and wonderful food from around the world.

I hope you enjoy your first Glasto! :)

O2 was pretty good on iPhone last year got 3G and everything. But 2009 O2 was poo it took forever to connect calls so it looks like the signal strength has been boosted.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it mentioned somewhere on here that Orange chill charge thing isnt here this year? Can't see it myself.

Taking a camping stove is good for maybe bacon and eggs in the morning (and even for heating a bit of water for a decent wash!) but there is so much food to choose from and if you budget £5-£8 for each meal it really doesn't cost you the earth.

Apart from anything, would you really fancy the trek back to the tent to make something to eat when you know all the while you'll be missing something?

Just avoid the 'fast-food' stuff like burgers, chips etc. which will do you no favours at all!

O2 network was fine last year but I think they're all pretty good these days with extra masts etc. Best option though is to switch it off for a couple of days!

If you do really rely on your phone (like I do if for no other reason than to make my mates at home jealous by updating my Facebook status!) then I would take a solar charger. It looks like there will be more charging points this year but it's bound to mean queueing you could probably do without.

Enjoy your first Glasto! :D

If you use your phone lots and plan to do so at G then its worth considereing taking an fully charged extra battery or two, yes there is an Orange 'chill n charge' area but chill isn't easy when the sun is melting your head in a very long cue that rarely seems to subside to less than half an hour, and then there is the hour plus wait when your in to find a plug in and the charging time on top of that, IMO thats time wasted on plenty of other stuff that there is to do :)

Thanks for all the advice (Y).

by the sounds of it, there is no particularly stand out network.. so may just stick to my current network of orange ha.

and i may invest in a little stove, just to do food with on a morning.. save's a little bit of money i guess.

At leeds they don't allow gas canister stoves, i presume this is the same at glastonbury then??
