Another campervan hire question?

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to organise a campervan from here in Australia.I did an online quote from a hire company and there was a drop down option for "reason for hire". One of the options was Glastonbury, but I chose "family trip" just to see the difference. A lady emailed me back with a quote for 1250 quid for a 2,3 or 4 berth camper. She also said that my dates correspond with the festival and it's more expensive at that time so am I flexible with the dates? I emailed back and said the dates are fixed and the 1250 is more than I wanted to pay. She responded with a new quote of 847 quid for the same dates. I don't understand how it's more if I say we are going to the festival even though there would be a lot more miles put on it if it was for a regular road trip. We are based in somerset so we would literally be driving it from the pick point to Pilton and then back again.... The easiest hire ever!

Its because they know people will pay that price there is not enough campervans to go round, your lucky to have found one still available and also when i hired one two years ago it was £850 + £1000 deposit its normally £500 but its Glastonbury. I had a operation on my hand so was unable to drive so the wife drove and guess what she hit a branch with the wing mirror put a crack in so was charged £250.In a couple of weeks you will struggle to hire one so if i was you get it done.We enjoyed it so much more in a motorhome we bought a new one this year,

Cold beers

lovely bed

hot shower

own toilet

cooked breakfast

more cold beers

no one entering m/h saying sorry wrong tent

great neighbours better class of people {joke before anyone starts }

cold beers

and best of all cold beers

sorry sound like a pisshead

a good nights sleep waking up to a cooked breakfast and a COLD BEER.

Thinking about it must save £200 taking own beer o lovely lovely cold beer

GOD I LOVE GLASTONBURY

Nice one didzisrein!I especially like the sound of better class of neighbours! :D And of course having cold beers.

Do you think I should come clean and tell them we are going to the festival or just continue with the booking. It will just be a bit suss when we take it back with hardly any miles done on it. Surely not every campervan in the UK is at Glasto?

I've been hiring camper vans for years now for Glasto, and with due respect to the previous poster, I think its a myth that the price goes up for Glasto - it goes up at that time of year because its high season. I say that because I've considered hiring a campervan at other times of the year, and dont find the price is less. They are just really expensive to hire. Having said that, your first quote was way too high, and has has only come down to roughly the going rate, so I wonder if you are being fooled into thinking you've got a bargain. I've not come across a company slashing their rates as a rssult of a call, or changing there rate because of where the van is going. Some say no when you tell them Glasto (even thats unusual now) but not charge you more - seems out of order to me - are you sure these people are ok?

If you are, and because its late you think you cant get anyhting ele, I frankly wouldn't tell them. You're going with family, and nothing will happen to the van, so its your business. Just remember to take something to clean it if we have a wet one!

PS. I use Wicked Campers - an aussie firm as it happens - very basic but at £350 it suits my pocket - you can pay less.

Hope thats of help

Come clean mate,Glastonbury have put on more campervan tickets because of high demand and now all sold out,Glasto have a older following such as me 46 to old to spend a week on the floor been doing it for years, but now need a comfy bed so there for a lot more tend to hire c/v,coming all that way and something going tits up with hire company would be a disaster.

I'm 47 and I actually like sleeping in a tent and get a great night's sleep out in the wilds tucked into my lovely, warm, sleeping bag inside my 1-man tent. My wife, on the other hand, hates everything about camping so we hired a CV and I have to admit, I'm looking forward to it.
