GlastoBill
Blow up mattress is the most comfortable but also the heaviest...
FunkyDenz
Self inflating camping mat is the most robust. Although it's not as comfortable as a fully working blow up mattress, it will generally last longer. I find that most blow up mattresses develop a leak after a few days of camping, resulting in you waking on the floor of the tent, the self inflating mats are far less likely to leak, they are better insulated, and they are pretty comfortable. Styliko
I've had a blow up mattress before and it leaked after just 1 day. After day 2 I lost the power of strength to keep pumping it up.
ukslim
£13 http://www.worldoftents.co.uk/vango-4-leg-camp-bed.html -- similar prices elsewhere. Almost 3kg, but worth it.

River
I can't sleep on an air bed, I move around too much. My mat came off ebay: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_npmv=3&_trksid=p3910.m570.l1311&_nkw=self+inflating+camping+mat&_sacat=See-All-Categories Its a 5cm thick one. Once ive popped the tent up then I just throw out the mat with the stopper untwisted and when I come back a little later its ready - only really takes a few mins but I have better things to do than watch it inflate

James Bolivar
Camping mats aren't very comfy - but they can offer good levels of insulation. They are cheap, light, but bulky, but you are not going to fû©k it with a stray fag or dropped darning-needle. I wouldn't use one, but if I had to, I'd go for a reputable brand (Karrimor must do something well, perhaps it's the Karrimat) Blow up beds are comfy (for me anyway), but offer no insulation and even in June you might wake up cold. They are heavy(ish), bulky and a bit fragile. Self-inflating airbeds are well insulated and I find mine very comfortable. They can be quite heavy, but they pack small. They are also pretty rugged, but take a repair kit as they can be expensive. There are other options - look at the thermarest ridgerest - cheap, but effective, though as bulky as a Karrimat.
