I was awoken by my phone this morning, and the following text from my slightly over excited friend:

"I just printed off the fest map and marked the rough locations of camp filth and camp sleepy on it :) sad me! lol"

(Camp Filth is the noisy contingent of my group who are camping as close to the crazy as possible and Camp Sleepy is for the lightweights who need sleep and booked family!)

Wouldn't surprise me, I'd be happy with that, the chillin will be ace. No queues, smaller crowds, and coppo might not book darkness and def lep again!

40,000! Jesus that is low, you'd have thought that after getting 110,000 last year there would be a bigger chuck wanting to return. Id heard it was more around 60,000-70,000 this year.

40k just seems too low. Surely System of a Down are a bigger draw than that.

I think Def Leppard will draw some fans I don't care if they were here 2 years ago and The Darkness will no doubt pull in some, no matter how much we think they aren't getting us buzzing.

If it is as low as 40.000 ish maybe the credit crunch is starting to hit people a bit more this year i know it has us, only time will tell i suppose, over on facebook there are still a lot of people not bought their tickets yet. Also on ebay there are a lot for sale so someone may bag a bargain nearer the time.

I went last year with the intent on returning this year but the line up just doesn't justify the cost hence why I opted for Soni.

I'm not sure SOAD are as big a pull as people think and The Darkness booking propbably had a reverse affect on ticket sales. I was gonna go for the day to see Leppard but when they booked The Darkness to sub I put my money straight back in my pocket.

It's a shame beacause its a good set up at Download (apart from distance between the stage and the campsites!!) and with it being local it's spot on.

Gotta say I can't see what the appeal is about Soni's line up myself, I don't think its stronger than Download, IMO its far weaker, the Saturday is shocking, Slipknot and Metallica are massive headliners but the rest of Friday main stage I couldn't give a f**k about Megadeth JUST played Download and Slayer are shite now, then theres no second stage on the Friday whatsoever.

Sunday sub spot being Limp Bizkit, great act, but too high a slot for me.

But I'll happily critize Download too, Pretty Reckless and Hollywood Undead 5th on main is too high, Skunk Anansie I love them to bits but 3rd on main I can see why non fans would think its too high by far, there are other examples too.

BUT Download have a REALLY strong second stage this year, its very strong to me, even iof im not a fan of all the acts I can see how strong it is, Main Stage seems to be lacking in comparision of name value. Third stage too is strong as well. BUT there are acts doing the rounds who could have been booked on Downloads bill and pushed a bit of main stage down and he hasn't booked them and im a bit pissed he hasn't, Black Label Society being the main one, he knows the fanbase is there and they're in Sweden on the Saturday but hasn't booked them. Papa Roach are another act a lot seemed to want and are avaliable but he hasn't bothered. Think a few stronger acts on main and it would have sold more.

Still I know Im gunna have a fantastic time regardless :)

I can easily find 15 bands i want to see over the 3 days but for some reason this year i did not shout out yessssssss when i heard the line up being announced and although i am probably 75% happy the other 25% has that niggling too many bands returning too soon plus the fact that we were promised 3 new headliners. But then again come Monday the 13th i will be sat back at home knowing i made the right decision and went.

I think there will be a slight jump in tickets towards the very end of this month with payday and what not a few of the people I'm supposed to be going with aren't buying tickets until the end of the month. I also agree with the people mentioning Sonisphere I do think it has a bigger draw than Download this year for most people, but for me personally I've always wanted to see SOAD. So I'll go where they go and discover new bands whilst I am there, also Times of Grace are gonna be frickin' brilliant!

I can easily pick out more bands I would watch from the soni bill, but download is download, and I genuinely prefer the setup, layout and running order of the hallowed ground. plus its at least an hour nearer than knebworth.

I've been going "Lower Than Atlantis" crazy today, and I must say I am really looking forward to seeing them. The undercard at DL is f**king mint.

SOAD can suck my balls. I'll watch em if my mate insists - but we have both seen them half a dozen times, I might check out F4AF instead.
