MrFancypants
Hey all. I've been to Glasto 8 times now and have never really worried about my hair as I just get it cut short just before and wear hats if necessary. However this year I'm coming with my girlfriend for the first time and she's asked the question of what to do with her hair? She has long hair which needs a bit of care to keep in good order. She's considered braiding it as she did that for Leeds Festival last year (but it cost around £120), but is looking for other options. How do people with long hair normally cope? Are the showers worth the que? Can you shower at silly times of the night to avoid ques? Any advice would be much appreciated.
AnnaGrant
I wear a hat when my hair starts to get dirty, then wash it in a bucket of cold water when I can't stand it any longer. My hair is quite short, so it dries quickly, but I will miss my hairdrier to get it how I like. If its sunny everyone will be wearing hats anyway. mkgirl1981
use the taps by the toilets in your campsite, if you go about 6am its usually pretty empty, go at 7am theres usually a queue i found just washing my hair made me feel so much cleaner during the fest and as it was sooo hot last year washing my hair under cold water felt like heaven
plainlazy44
My missus has asked me to mention dry shampoo to you. No water needed, spray rub brush. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004U3S7AI/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002L28FX4&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0ZCV9RGZYFWVAWVBG39C

StoneCircle
Save a couple of empty 1 litre or larger pop/water bottles. Fill at the taps and leave in your tent to warm up in the baking sun. Attach a watering can rose from Poundland and wash/condition your hair in the late afternoon. Do be considerate to neighbours so you don't flood their pitch, and the farm by using biodegradable products only.

IamChappu
For me it's a combination of Batiste dry shampoo & a solar shower by the tent once or twice - lovely & refreshing...if a little cold! I have to confess to gas straighteners too... Never used the showers but I hear that if you go either really early or late afternoon, the queues aren't too bad/non-existent. Douzeper
Also, pleeeeeese no washing of hair at the taps, it right pisses folk off when folk are trying to get water.
LusciousLucy
A fellow efester friend gets her hair done in a triple French pleat for the fest. It looks great and stays in place for the whole fest. Kinder and cheaper than getting full braids (and you say that the hair needs to be cared for...cant see how braiding is very kind for hair!) I am considering this option this year but to be honest, the 2x 2 litre bottle of water, shampoo back at the campsite and good quality leave in conditioner works fine. The Aussie Leave in conditioner will provide the care you say the hair needs. Can she not also make long plaits too? With lovely daisy hair bobbles
morelego
I have long wavy hair, I wash it Wednesday morning then I just use spray in dry shampoo when needed. It feels SO nice to have a shower when you get home and clean your hair after not washing it for so long
Squiby
I have bought 2 over sized beanie hats, 1 black and one White and some dry shampoo to try to help with the grease. I wash my hair every other day at home but miss my GHD's terribly at Glasto.
miss_scarlett
£120 to braid hair? How on earth did she end up paying that much? Any Afro hairdressers will braid European hair for a fraction of that.
rischbrit
For me it's spray in shampoo and hat. I have thick long hair so if I can cope anyone can!!!

bexj
I have, in the past, braided it myself, with the help of a very patient boyfriend and some multi-coloured elastic bands! These days I use dry shampoo, or, wash it under the tap (making sure that I do it around 4pm generally when the taps are quiet)

droneoid
There was actually a salon last year, near the JP tent. Had a good laugh at girls getting thier hair done????? Not sure if it will be back this year.
MyTwistedWords
i washed my hair under the campsite taps every day in last years heat - did this between 5-6am when nobody was about... do be considerate to other campers and dont wash your hair in the drinking water when there's a queue! I also took a 10ltr water bag with tap attachment and used that as a shower with 'green' products by the fence in our camp, away from other pitches.. heaven after all the dust and heat!! HurrahBrother
Hair dressers have been spotted on site. Going on where people think they say one last year, there were at least 3 on site. One near the John Peel/Dance area which I did see, and 2 more I didn't spot but others claimed to have seen, one in general market, and one seen to be over towards, if not in, the greenfeilds area. YetAnotherOldHippy
Personally, I just brush mine every day and it still looks lovely - then again I'm something of a skanky hippy all year round and refuse to wash my hair too often (once or twice a month is more than enough) Unfortunately/fortunately it's falling out fast so shouldn't be a problem for many more years Sorry, just read the thread title so ignore this non-girl related post. muddyslingbax
no time for all that high maintenance stuff Wash and condition really well before i get there then do naff all with it; maybe tie it back. Too much of a state (and can't be arsed) to be getting it together to actually do anything coordinated like filling up bags of water or washing it. Life's too short when you're in G world. thebattleofevermore
I usually just wash it intensively the day I leave, so it has the best possible chances of looking semi-decent all weekend. I take dry shampoo and use it every morning. I usually straighten my hair most days but I don't bother at festivals (for obvious reasons). I'm quite concerned this year though; it's my first festival season with a fringe, and a fringe which drastically relies on an everyday straightening so that it doesn't look mental. I'm wondering whether I should invest in some gas-powered straighteners (any recommendations?) or go oldschool with some bandanna's to keep it in check! CitizenErased
As a bloke with long hair, I've never used spray on shampoo, so I'm gonna give that a go, but if you've really got to wash it I'll give you all a tip from the dark side, men can't resist the smell of beer or larger, so if your hair gets skanky and you're up for it, just tip a four pack of Guinness over your head, massage into a lather and then rinse(with a can of carling)... because you're worth it. Abster
Go hippy for a few days I always opt for low maintenance haircuts (I get bored spending hours to look the same!) so Yes few weeks before I get my haircut, inform hairdresser where I'm off too, then once there dry shampoo works a treat failing that always the hat look. And by the end of the festival everyone has the festival look going on anyways!! Miami was the worst, GHD's and hairdryer had half the normal power had to wash hair everyday from beach and clubbing so had the curly hair look on for a week! bit of wax scrunch it up and your done
