michael eavis' beard
Worthy FM tweeted a bit ago (sorry if already posted) that there'll be no Joe Bananas camping stall this year. Where will people get their bit and bobs from now!?
G1T
There are going to be four other stalls for camping equipment onsite apparently, and one called 'love camping' is taking the space Joe Bananas had. Really sorry not to see them there though, hope they're ok.

Late
I find that the timing of this announcement to be unacceptable! I have no chance of getting a refund on my ticket. Suppose i will have to go anyway and just do the best i can to enjoy the rest of the festival :-(
fightoffyour
I think there was another thread where people were complaining about them being rude and being con-artists.

El Gato
£5 a blanket has been the best deal at the festival, have purchased at least 2 over the years, Including one as a last resort at the end of 2007 to shelter myself when even my waterproofs had lost the battle against the rain. themuel
I very vaguely know one of the family and found out they were shutting a few months ago, wasn't sure if it was a secret so didn't mention it. Very sad though I love that stall!

grumpyhack
Joe Bananas was a legend and Ian 'Lenny' Leonard who ran the business was a nice guy. Lenny was a shrewd operator who knew the festival scene better than most and was prepared for all eventualities. Although it was called a blanket stall he also stocked so many other festival essentials. Changeable weather was his best friend. If it looked like rain he'd make a quick call back to the warehouse and before the first drops had hit the ground there would be a lorry load of wellies and ponchos ready for everyone.. If it was a scorcher he'd have cool shirts and sunblock. Lenny started as a market trader and got his name from the old banana boxes he used to carry his goods around in. I think he took over the business from his dad, who really was called Joe. Millets and the other corporates may be slicker but festivals won't be the same without him,
AnnaGrant
Joe Bananas is the only stall whose name I can remember from my trips to Glastonbury last century. I was looking forward to checking it out again. I'm sure there will be other camping stalls, but don't know which. I popped into our local Go Outdoors camping warehouse recently and one of the assistants said they would be having a stall at Glastonbury, but then one of her colleagues said they had cancelled their Glasto stall. So hope the other camping stalls make it.

tomf3
Yeah surprised not to see a bit more love for JB on here. Aside from a great stall, he really was a pioneer when it came to Glastonbury's late night offerings. The first years that I attended his stall was the late night area (although I'm sure there were other things happening that we didn't know about). Seemed to be more fuss about the potential headliner leak in his obituary rather than anything about the man or his stall on here...fairly poor I thought. CaledonianGonzo
There was some general acknowledgement and RIP-ing in the In Memoriam thread when it actually happened.

We would have a last dance at the Joe Bananas silent disco in 2009, classy space, patch of empty land between the stall and the long drops 😅 I’ve got some short videos but must be on Mrs NS phone.
