Multiple trips back to the car

I will HAVE to do 2 trips as I am not young and fit and last years trek from car park nearly finished me off.

My plan is to take tent, chair, tea making kit and a light rucksack, to see me through the day, then go back later for the rest.

I have read that it is worth leaving it a giid while before going back out through Gate D, so will have to see how that pans out!

Unfortunatley I have to leave sunday evening (teaching 9am monday morning  ) So my plan is to take one load sunday mroning, and a second load early evening, allowing me to return for QOTSA :)

Is it pretty hard work to actually prove you're re-entering site & use another queue, etc?

Myself, I forego lots of luxuries, specifically so that I can carry everything I need in one journey.

When I take the train, of course I have no choice in the matter.

When I drive, I pack light because I *definitely* don't want to trudge back to the car park.

But other people have different priorities. In the end, it's up to you.

Last year we struggled through with the main bulk - trolley, tent, rucksacks and a bit of booze. Once through the gates we dumped some of our stuff at one of the first lock ups so we could focus on the main goal - getting to our desired campsite quickly and getting the tents up. Made it a million times less exhausting than in previous years. Just don't forget to take your mallet out your bag before you check it in! ;)

To answer the original posters question - There are 3 entrances at each entrance (if that makes sense). One for new arrivals, one for trolleys and prams and one with a big f**k off RE-ENTRY sign over it. So if you have been in and made that second journey then use the one marked re-entry. I have never seen a queue of more than a half dozen people waiting to use re-entry after 11am on Wednesday.

As for doing the second run or not, I am in the second run camp. First journey I carry my rucksack and have my tent and coolbox on the trolley. Nice and easy with no struggling, get the tent setup and have a beer. A bit later I take a wander back with the bro, use the chairs left in the car for a sit down and have a beer and smoke and then trolley the beer and chairs in. Usually takes us around an hour with a 20 minute stop at the car.

Looks like the second trip is going to prove much more worthwhile for us, especially due to now knowing about the ease of use of the different entrances at the gates (yep, that makes sense) – cheers for all the info! :)

Our main concern was purely the beer/cider stash, due to weight. Think it definitely now will be rucksacks & tent, followed by a trip back to the car. The amount of time this takes isn’t really a concern (as we’re hoping to arrive early on Weds), am sure we’ll appreciate the lack of struggle in comparison.

For me, one trip, but I'm trying to travel light, tent, clothes and some spirits, no beer, no mixers. One rucksack is enough. Every year I take stuff that i don't use, so out it goes for the next year. Once i made the deliberate decision that I wasn't going to take beer or food, it encouraged me to think a lot about the rest of the stuff.

last year we went back to the car quite a few times, it was about a 15 minute walk from gate d so it took about an hour to go from our tent in pennards to the car and back again but we found it worth it and it was easier than stuggily and carrying everything at once :)

For me the second trip is all part of Wednesday anyway, also sometimes do a 3rd and help others camped around us, doesn't matter once you are there with a tinny in your hand and the sun beating down with no work tomorrow or the next or the next or the....

I have done two trips in the past. Tent, Clothes, Chair first, then empty the rucksack and go back to fill it with beers. Having said this after ending up parking miles away from the campsite in 09 I am now a one trip girl!

I am not the strongest of people and so I if can do it anybody can. I always think people with trolleys look like their arms are about to fall off too so I've never used one. I just invested in a good backpack, make sure my tent is no heavier than 4kg and take the pain for 30 mins. I only tend to take boxes of wine (4 for one weekend plus the cider I will buy on site is more than enough for a girl of my size and if you put the wine in the freezer for a week before the festival you will be surprised to find it still chilled on the saturday) and then a few basics. You never need all the clothes you think.

It feels so good to watch the rest of my group have to muster the strength to go back to the car while i relax. They are never back before at least 2 hours has passed by which time i have had a lovely snooze after the drive and got nice and comfy.

If you are going down to gate C - 1 trip its down hill, your trolley will ride itself, but coming back recommend 2 trips. I told my kids to look down and don't look up till we got to the top, just as you thought you were at the top, there was more!!!! :O We were grateful for the ice cream man at the top.
