Which are the best food stalls?

Hi all,

Searched but can't find a topic on this.

What does everyone reckon are the best places to get food from?

Could be across a number of categories such as:

  • Best for cheap eats

  • Best for a light snack

  • Best for when you're really hungover

  • Best for brekky

Last year we were camped near an Eritrean curry place that was seriously delicious and really unusual

And I had a really delicious Falafel in The Park

Everything else was typical overpriced festival fodder really

Thanks

Most of it's over priced garbage, but it's a festival so can't expect anything else. Many on here rave about the food but probably just eat fast food on a regular basis anyway and am not concerened about high fat and high price food. I mean there's a stall which does marmite on toast and tea for about £4 and people think it's amazing. That's what you're up against on here.

The one meal thai place was fab, think it was £7 for the meal which consisted of rice, noodles, green thai curry, mini veggie spring rolls, lots there, too much for me to eat by myself and doesn't consist of bread (first year, biggest mistake, od'ing on cheap bread based products!)

Also the jerk chicken place near Jazz World is great, with rice and peas or salad.

Then there is the green field area with lots of veggie meals at varying prices, must admit i am a little bit of a falafel fiend when at Glasto!

But to me Glasto is a time of the year where i relax my diet a little, will be walking for miles anyhoo so i think a little bit of fried food won't do too much damage! Breakfast for me usually consists of a nice cold yogurt from the milk truck and some apple juice!

I would just advise to stear clear of too much bread/pastry, it's only going to end up making you feel stodgy!

Gumbo stall (I have a feeling that's not it's real name...), I ate there most days and the portions were big enough to share with my boyfriend.

I second the park's falafel and green field food.

I failed to find anything decent that was cheap though :( I had chips on the first day and they were undercooked and grim. I just ended up sharing meals to cut the costs.

You can't find a topic on this??????? Jeez!

I agree with essex_jim. The amount of people on here who rave about Le Grand Bouffe (or whatever it's called) and their Tarte thing that is basically Sausage & Chips (that's Sausage, singular, and quite a stubby one at that) and costs about £8. More money than sense.

Every year my breakfast routine is generally one particular stall for its £2.50 Bacon Roll and another quite close by for its 50p cup of tea, which covers all of your categories I think.

After that I don't feel so bad about paying a fiver plus for Pie & Mash from Pieminister or Square Pie later in the day.

Other faves I've sampled are the Goan Fish Curry (I AM going to get there early enough to have Kedgeree for breakfast one day), the Smoothies with a splash of ginger in them (I was getting through at least two a day last year (at three bloody quid each I think, I had more money than sense)) and tbh I generally just end up fancying and plumping for good old reliable burgers, noodles, hog roasts, pancakes (crepes if you're posh) and doughnuts. f**k the health regime, I'm on holiday. At festy prices it is also a gamble to get adventurous.

I am waiting to see if that pretentious place that was charging mega bucks (approaching a ton?) for rabbit, pigeon or mackerel and the like is back this year. That amused me that did. I know they gave a proper restaurant experience and all that but for that price I would want a massive piece of cow.

Is Cider a food? If so then Cider Bus Hot & Spicy wins Dish Of The Site.

The Childrens world cafe in the cabaret area is good. Does nice reasonably priced breakfasts in the morning, chips and burgers during the day and nice cakes too. Not necessarily the most adventourous of food tents, but very reliable and good value. Also the profits go to the childrens world charity

last year i had a hot roast pork butty thing that was lovely... somewhere close to the bread & roses is the best i can offer by way of directions! haha

aside from that - i just pick somewhere that looks reasonable when i need something to eat. i dont really go out of my way to a certain stall, just whatever is handy

I'm looking forward to a Pieminister almost as much as seeing U2! Also had a lovely pizza somewhere in the Greenpeace area, and there was a good choice around the theatre area. Like somebody else said, we had some awful undercooked chips - always avoid a chip van with a long queue, it doesn't mean they must be nice, it means they'll rush them and undercook them. x

Erm what.

How many other festivals do you know that have a marmite and toast stall?

In festival terms, Glasto is the best food wise. There's every food you can think of, from curry to burgers, to fish, to cornflakes, to waffles, to Chinese to Indian. Everything.

Even in home terms, it's better than a lot of stuff!

You're completely missing the point, yes they have marmite stalls but they charge more than what a jar of the stuff and a loaf of bread costs. I appreciate you're always going to pay a bit more but the prices are astronomical. I don't care, I can afford it for one weekend and will eat from these places. I'm just saying, it's overpriced and most of it's garbage. The way some talk on here the food is literally the only reason they attend Glastonbury!

there is absolutely everything there! last year i ate spaghetti carbonara from a stall ( that i cant remember the name of  ) but sometimes i had fish and chips from the stand next to it. there was a steakhouse stall next to it aswell however i never ate from there but it looked really nice! many people on here also said that the goan fish curry was amazing and we tried to find it so that my dad could try it but we only found it on the sunday night whilst sitting by the brothers bar :D the best place for breakfast is the breakfast bars that serve everything from toast to full english breakfast and also sell pukka pies, i ate there once last year and all the other days i had a slush puppie and a cake from the stand next door because it was too warm to sit and eat hot food and it was cheaper :) it really depends on what sort of food you like, i am a very fussy eater so it was hard to find something that i liked but if your easy to please then you can have pretty much anything B)

The food is one of the joys of Glasto for me. A chance to go on a gastronomic world tour. Suresh's Indian Veggie Curry stall on the bridge at the entrance to West Holts does a superb festival special for £5.99 - and there are tables and chairs, La Grand Bouffe does a magnificent tartiflette, All sorts of great gems in the Green Fields. Discover new bands and discover new food.
