Levelling Wedges : Good idea ?

Can't speak for West (never been there) but East is mostly flat, yeah - I'd take your wedges though, you'd be gutted to get there with a week's worth of beer and food and find your fridge doesn't work and your sink won't drain properly.

(Rob da Bank, I'm referring to the Camp Bestival campervan site here)

The cheaper ones are just a big solid plastic wedge you drive up - Fiamma are the ones I use - £12 and they've been fine. You can pay a bit more and get multi height wedges that will allow you to level up on more severe slopes, about £20. TBH though, if the slope were that steep I'd return to the queue to be sited elsewhere.

If it's a caravan your taking then I also take 4 flat blocks of wood or something, anything solid with a large flat surface area. I use them for the corner steadies to stop them sinking in the mud.

Last thing are a couple of wheel chocks to stop it moving should the brake fail.

Milenco quattros are considered to be the best. Wide and tall, also expensive, about £35 a pair.

We have some made by Thule, they're good but not as good as the Milencos. We bought them as the Milencos were sold out everywhere.

Originally had some of the £15 Fiammas, rubbish tbh, too narrow for our tyres and not enough high to make them worthwhile..

Don't think home made ones are such a bad idea though...

edit - just seen your post Oblong, sorry didn't mean to dis your ramps :P

I have used the fiammas for years and had no issue with them on any site including Glastonbury. As the op said if the slope is that severe I would move! Another thing to consider is that the bigger the wedges the harder to find somewhere to store them when travelling. Don't have this problem with the fiammas.

It's not just that I found the Fiammas a bit shallower, they were also too narrow for my tires - far too easy to end up with the wheels half on / half off the ramps.

Plus the Milencos are more distinct steps, making it a doddle to level up on your own.

They are indisputibly hefty and occupy almost all of one of the outside lockers!
