SFK
First time driving a motorhome this year (a bit nervous!). Picking it up from Tickenham, South of Bristol and need to get to East campervan fields. Having never driven a motorhome before, I'm keen to stay on main (ie A) roads for as long as possible (and avoid hills!). So, if anyone can give me route advice I'd be very grateful. Thanks Sarah
loosechange
If you follow the routes advertised on the official site then you can't go wrong in a motorhome - other than getting stuck in queues. Don't worry about it, they're dead easy to drive, the only thing you have to remember is to use your wing mirrors all the time in the absence of a useful rearview mirror... rischbrit
We're in motorhome too using M5 j 19 then thru cheddar to Shepton Mallet if that helps but I think there are some hills but it is all A roads.

Cooter
I would add, even if you have checked what's behind you, never reverse in a straight line in case someone or something is in your blind spot behind you. Sounds a bit paranoid I know but the amount of van/camper drivers I've seen reverse into concrete bollards etc, which could easily be a small child in the cv fields. al_coholic
Stick to the A37 from Bristol to Shepton Mallet, the roads are easy, there are several hills and there will be loads of stop/starts in traffic and gear changes, but campervans respond very well, just use your hand brake to hold it on hills, and dont worry, they are easy to drive just a bit bigger than a car. SFK
Thanks everyone for your replies, I am going down on the Tuesday, so hopefully will miss the mahoosive traffic jams. Can't wait - counting down the days!!
pompeygreg
Getting on the A37 from Tickenham would be a complete ball ache, especially in a motorhome. You're looking at heading back to Bristol and then out again. My route would be to continue into Clevedon from Tickenham, turn left at the mini roundabout and left at the next roundabout to join the M5. Then junction 23 and follow the A39 to Glasto. Nice and simple and should be an easy drive on Tuesday.
