Day Tickets

...I'm really glad that EOTR doesn't have day tickets. It's not festival elitism or snobbery - 'Oh? Only came for today? Not a proper festival goer then, are you?' - it's just that having a community that are all in it for the duration creates an atmosphere that I really like.

It's fascinating to see how people 'evolve' over the course of the 3-4 days, a feeling of mutual accomplishment, of survival.

At Latitude there can be quite a shift in atmosphere from day to day as people come and go. Partly this is affected by overall numbers as by Saturday lunchtime the site seems to have filled up enormously with fresh faced punters not bearing the scars of two late nights already.

So for me, the no day ticket policy enhances EOTR.

Thoughts?

I think this is all connected - don't think the sort of person who is into the music that EOTR offers would generally be the sort of person who would want to just do one day, ie you can't really be, say, a Mogwai fan and not love loads of other stuff on the bill.

Not the same for, say, a Florence and the Machine fan at last years Latitude.

The first EOTR they did sell day tickets - but I think that was just a last minute thing because sales were so poor - I am so, so, grateful that they managed to get through that tough time.....

So, thinking about it, it is possible that a few day ticket sales saved EOTR!!!!

Couldn't agree more.

There's a much better community vibe at EotR and it's also nice to know on Friday night that there isn't going to be a Saturday influx of non-festival types with their deluxe buggies, picnic hampers and 4x4s. It's also reassuring that the crowd there on a Friday night will not suddenly double the next day.

They get pretty much everything spot on at this festival, but would a hog-roast stall be possible?

You say all this and in some ways I agree but the Larmer Tree Festival here still has a lovely atmosphere, despite having lot's of day ticketers. It makes a bit of difference but I think it's more that a festival with great acts and a good ethos attracts nice people and thus creates a nice atmosphere.

Still, I prefer it this way.
