thenavyone
Hey Everyone I have a few questions about arriving by car; this is my second Glasto but last time I took the bus. I plan to arrive at some point Tuesday night/Wed morning. What time do you reckon I should aim to arrive at the car park and what time should I aim to join the queue at the gate? I've heard horror stories of last year people joining the queue at 7am (gates opened at 9am) and then they had to queue for 7 hours?! I swear last year they were going to compile some sort of char showing when people arrived? Also, in terms of parking at a certain car park, from what I have read you can't just rock up anywhere? I plan to camp in Dairy again this year so am thinking I have to drive in from the South West side and just head to wherever the stewards tell me? Ideally I need to be somewhere near Pedestrian gate E, ideally car park w38/w36 I guess? Any other tips etc to make this as straightforward as possible are gratefully received. Thanks. bexj
Last year was the first time they opened up car parks early, and so many other factors too, weather, footie etc make it near on impossible to predict what might happen this year. You don't get a choice where to park, you are either directed to East or West carparks depending on where you are coming from, and then you get put in whichever carparks they are filling up at the time. We arrived at 9ish on Wed morning and had to park about as far away from the gate as it's possible to be. Just accept that at some point you will have to queue and walk, so be prepared accordingly. thenavyone
Thanks both for your reply. I'm not at all bothered about walking in the slightest I just really hate queuing! I was thinking if I parked as close as possible I might be able to "see" the queue. I think I'm just going to embrace the crazyness and start queueing at 5am; With my fshing stool and a big brolly. O and several cans of Brothers!

LostRiot
If you take a chair or stool the queue won't be bad at all. Ideally some form of music too.
thenavyone
Thanks again everyone, I was going to take my ipod but am thinking a battery radio with some Worthy farm on it is the way forward. The lack of shade was a real killer last year and I arrived about 12.30pm (got on bus from Bristol @ 8am!) but the queue was only about an hour. It's a 7 hour wait I am dreading but hopefully that was just a fluke last year. If the rain is truly awful do you reckon anyone would object to a pop up tent in the queue @ the gates? I know you can't camp in the car park so not sure really?
scappaflow
I reckon getting in will not be a big problem this year. Last year I think the Football screwed everything up. Everyone tried to arrive about 10am-Midday, thinking they would get in and set up to go and watch the World Cup at 2pm. I think having car parks open early will spread out the arrivals as it was originally intended to do, which will ease congestion on the roads. We got in no probs in 2009. Arriving about 11am and getting a prime spot in Pennards. Last year we arrived at the same time and it was one of the least pleasant experiences of my life, standing fully laden in the heat waiting on the queue edging forward 1m every few minutes. Then when we did get in, having to walk the full length of the site to an area that was miles away from anywhere. Was so knackered that it put a damper on my week, along with the massive walk back to the tent for food / supplies during the day.
thenavyone
The thing that really bothers me is that at 7am on the Wednesday last year there was a 7 hour queue!? I'm a trooper but 7 hours queuing would test my patience to the extreme! I really just want to avoid a repetition of that

RosieFreckleface
last year i arrived in the west car parks at c 9am got to park 2 rows in and although there was a bit of a walk there was very little queue to get in the gates. i don't know if i was just lucky and got there when they opened a new car park, but it all weorked really well. apparently lots of people slept in their cars overnight on the tuesday and then all rushed to the gates when they opened at 7am, so if you time it right you will avoid those queues.
