How early do I need to arrive to get into Family field?

My first time coming to Glasto with my son so need to get into the family field for the first time.

I have a huge tent. How early will I need to arrive to get into the Family field near the Kidz field?

Any family camping advice welcome

You do not stand a chance, unless you are one of the very first through the gates on Wednesday. We didn't take kids last year, but in the previous 3 (2007,8,9) years barely nabbed one of the last spots in Cockmill Meadow (even though we got through the ped gate before Noon). Suck up the walk (you will be doing a ton of walking anyway) and use the new wicket ground family camping. Lots more space there.

They have made Cockmill a quarter smaller this year to accomodate the new recycling facility So it will be even tougher getting a spot there.

Don't let not getting the camping spot you wanted disappoint you too much. You will have a blast.

5.5 hours queueing? My stomach turns at the thought of doing that with my son.

From the sounds of it I'd have to start queueing at 3am to be anywhere near the front of the queue, meaning it doesn't matter what time you start queueing you'll definately be there for 5 hours. Oh joy...

My youngest daughter is only 8 years old, so I am wondering if the benefits of the location of Cockmill Meadow are outweighed by effort requied to get a pitch there, i.e. aiming to arrive before 6am Wednesday, then still queuing for many hours to get through the gate.

I wonder if we should forget Cockmill and head for the Wicket Ground arriving later in the morning. I gather there is lots more room here, but just worry about the distance to walk to the Kidz Field, Pyramid Stage and the other attractions in the eastern side of the site.
