Route in from the East

Hey all,

I'll be driving in from Reading Wednesday morning aiming to hit site ~5:30am. Approaching from the east and heading for blue route/East car park.

Will the roads be clear at that time or will I be queueing in traffic?

Any advice on which roads to take / which to avoid?

Looks like options are:

- M4 then down (which exit from M4?)

- A303 -> north up A37 (ie. via Wincanton)

- A303 -> A36 -> A361 ->south down A37 (ie. via Frome)

- Any better options?

Should I use small roads when I get closer or stick with larger roads?

Thanks all!

Im replying with not much useful advice, but cause I'm interested as well.

All I can say is last time I went I did the M4/A303/A36 route...but that was on a Friday so I don't know what's best for a busier time. On the way out on Monday we followed someone who knew the area and put us on a great back road that came out at stonehenge, avoided all the traffic. No idea where it was though?

well I'm a first timer so at the moment am sticking with the sat nav postcode from the Glasto guide for arriving from London and whatever Google Maps says. That gives the Wincanton route.

I'm thinking approaching the site from the South/South East is a good way in overall, as much of the site traffic will be coming from the M4/M5. Plus there seem to be some pub lunch possibilities on the way down if we don't get away as quick as I'd like. And I've spotted a large Sainsburys on the way we can stock up on (complicated travel arrangements, picking up 1 person enroute in London and another in Heathrow shortly after she lands from South Africa, so better to beer run there!)

If the Wincanton way is a fool's errand, then let me know!!

At some point you'll hit a queue on the A37 as that where the CP entrance is... though should be relatively short at 5.30am. Last year we queued for about 90 mins (or was in very very slow traffic) at 7am coming north up the A37. With 100000 cars, queuing is inevitable.

TBH, the queuing situation is different each year, so impossible to say. Pre 2009, we sailed in through Shepton. 2009 it took is 4 hours to go 4 miles. Just plan for a queue, and if you don't get one, then its a bonus!

Bear in mind there are a lot of road closures - or roads only open to locals if you are planning using lanes.
