The_Amazing_Oblong
Taking my youngest this year. He is 13 in August so gets in free but what happens on entry ? Do they get nothing, no band or anything. I'm not worried about him getting in as he is obviously a child of around that age but he is tall for his age. I can foresee potential hassle every time we enter the festival from the CV fields if they get nothing. Anyone know as last time I took an U13 we camped so only had to prove his age once. Morse Code
Children under 13 don't need a ticket and don't get a wristband on entry. We took my 13 yr old son (who needed a ticket) and my 12 year old niece (who didn't) last year and the stewards at the CV gate were great. Never challenged us once. Main problem was my son demanding to show his wristband, ticket and pass out every time we went in just because he had one!! :-) If I'm honest it half made me think we needn't have shelled out the £200 for his ticket! ;-)
rainbow girl
My son was 12 last year and in spite of not having a wrist band on, managed to get served a pint, yet his age wasn't checked on entry....we weren't in the C/V fields then but he did help his dad go back and forth with trips to the car, and again he didn't get checked. My worry now that he is 13 and a ticket holder is that he wants to go and see different bands from us and trying to meeet up afterwards to all go "home" would be nigh on impossible - we've made arrangements for him to be "looked after" when at places at night away from us, but as has happened in previous years, sometimes we all just end up meeting back at the tent as we have lost each other. Given that he will now potentially have to make his own way out of the fence back to our base, there is a greater potential for him losing his pass or ticket - so our dilemma is, do we now give him less freedom than in previous years because of this, or can we allow him to make his own way around? Your son should be OK without taking proof of age, although he won't be able to enter or exit the C/V fields on his own, even in the morning to pop on site and pick up a paper and pint of milk! Good luck - will be interested to hear how you get on.
The_Amazing_Oblong
Not too fussed on the getting paper and milk I am actually taking all 3 of my sons this year. The eldest (5th Glasto now) is 21, middle son is 18 (Glasto virgin) and then the youngest (Glasto virgin) so they can walk him in while the wife and I nurse our old bones. I was just worried in case I needed to stop and prove his age every time. Feel much happier now, thank you. As for your 13 year old. Mine took a mate at that age and although they camped with us they only ever showed up when they needed more money. I did find that I felt perfectly safe with them inside the fence. Since he is now 21 he has come clean on what they got up to. Up the stones with laughing gas, 'finding' lost cans of lager (ours from within our tent) but mostly hanging round the cookie van doing odd jobs for free cookies He did say everyone was nice to them and made them feel very welcome wherever they went. What we used to do was give them a rough outline of who we were intending to see. We always hang around the same parts of the crowd so they managed to find us when they needed to (Front right sound desk at Pyramid, Half way back centre at Other and so forth). I also insisted on seeing them for breakfast each morning just to check they were ok and ensure they had at least one decent meal in them a day. For the passout I have considered that and I think I am going to buy 3 of those passport type wallets that go on the inside of your top and ask them to keep their tickets/passouts in those. I also read in another thread that if they do lose them you can go to Gate A portacabin and get it sorted out, although it can take up to 2 hours. I would imagine it happens pretty frequently. rainbow girl
thanks TAO, that's reassuring to read and good advice - my son is festival savvy and knows his way around the site, so hopefully he'll be ok, but I do require him to come "home" at night to get some sleep!!
